Tournament golf for amateurs, with a field that's actually vetted.

Five skill-based divisions. Professionally run events at courses worth the drive. A season that adds up to something.

You don't need a club to belong to, a qualifying score, or an invitation. You need to want the version of golf where the card is signed, the scores are posted, and finishing second actually stings.

The field is vetted. That's the whole product.

Everyone offering flighted golf says the flights are fair. Here is specifically how ours are held up.

A committee places you, not a formula

New members complete the APT Handicap Questionnaire. The APT Competition Committee — chaired by Matt Fegley and made up of chapter owners and current players — reviews it alongside your USGA handicap, your 12-month low, your competition scores, results from other organizations, and which tees you played them from.

No single number decides where you go. A questionnaire alone doesn't decide it either. People are accountable for the call.

That committee meets every week

Indexes are reviewed every Wednesday, year-round. Not at season start. Not when someone complains. Every week. That's how a player who is quietly in the wrong division gets found in weeks instead of seasons.

Your index comes from tournament rounds only

Once you've posted six tournament rounds with us, your division placement runs on your APT Tournament Index — built from your last 20 tournament rounds, under Equitable Stroke Control, with a performance-based formula that weights your better scores.

A USGA Handicap is a portable measure of potential, built so any golfer can play any golfer anywhere. The APT Tournament Index is a within-system sorting device, built to put our members into divisions where scores are comparable. Different jobs. We use the right tool for ours.

Every score is calculated off the same tee

Whatever tee you play — open, forward, ladies — your index is calculated against the open tee slope and rating. A 77 is a 77 from 6,500 yards or 5,200. You cannot buy protection by moving up a tee.

And if you're not in the right division, you can say so

Any member can request relegation through the Relegation Request Form. The Committee answers at its Wednesday meeting. Unvalidated players who post scores well below their division get reviewed on the spot, during the event.

You should never be punished for getting better.

The fear isn't being placed too low. It's shooting one good round in June, getting bumped in July, and losing a season you were winning.

We built the opposite.

Play well and you keep everything. Get promoted mid-season and you carry 100% of your points into the new division — and pick up a higher difficulty multiplier, because harder competition should be worth more. If you'd already earned Player of the Year in your old division, you still win it.

Improvement doesn't trigger an instant bump. Members with a full index who dip just under their division line enter a short review window, not an automatic promotion. Handicaps move. A three-round hot streak isn't a new skill level, and we don't treat it as one.

Play more, get more room. Members who put in volume during a season — 10, 15, 20+ rounds — earn progressively more cushion before a promotion triggers. Flight Lock exists so the members who show up most aren't the ones most exposed to a mid-season move.

Relegation runs year-round. If your game genuinely goes the other way, you're not stuck waiting for a seasonal window. Validated players can be relegated once per season, on request, reviewed weekly.

No previous handicap? That's common and it's fine. The questionnaire and the Committee handle it.

Seniors and forward tees. Members turning 60 by October 1 can request the forward tees, reviewed by the Committee. At 70+ (60+ for women), the Super Senior tee is available, competing in Senior Net. Requests are reviewed on playing history, not just age — the point is keeping you competitive, not shortening the course.
