Division 1: Pars are always a good score in golf, and Matt Minder opened his round with a perfect 9 of them on the front 9 of the scenic Los Verdes Golf Course, good for a two stroke lead over Jackson Palmer. Palmer would unfortunately suffer an injury which forced him to withdraw on the 12th hole, but Ryan Betke took up the chase picking up four strokes in four holes on Matt. In the end, Matt held off the charge and claimed the trophy and a $100 Visa Gift Card for his win!
Division 2: Playing in his first APT tournament, Matthew Knowles was red hot out of the gate, getting to 2 under after 6 and turning in 36. The always dangerous Twon Fullman kept the pressure on, just two back with a solid 38 on the front, with Felix Monjes and Jeremy Adler four back. Things went a little sideways on the difficult back nine for Matt, leaving the door open for Twon to briefly pull even. A bogey-bogey finish meant Knowles earned the victory with 78, good for a $175 Visa Gift Card and the trophy!
Division 3: Hunter Thain has been awfully close recently, notching top 3 finishes in multiple events. He matched the low nine of the tournament going out with 36, including two birdies on 1&9. With a five shot lead going to the back nine over Kyle Cardoza, solid golf coming in was all that was needed and Thain delivered. He posted a 78 to match the low round of the tournament and earn his first APT victory! Scott Christensen made five straight pars on the challenging back nine to pull into second at 83, good for a $50 Visa Gift Card. Hunter took home a $200 Visa Gift Card and the trophy for the win!
Division 4: Steven Ayala has also been awfully close in several APT tournaments, with many podium finishes but no victories yet. That changed on Sunday when he played a strong front 9 in 42 to take a one shot lead over Steve Minder and Marty Rhinehart. Marty played steady golf on the back 9 to keep the pressure on Ayala and the two would exchange leads multiple times before ending up tied on the 18th tee. Ayala was one group in front and took a double bogey on the difficult 18th, but Marty unfortunately could not match and Ayala’s 87 was good for his first APT win, a $175 Visa Gift Card, and the trophy!
Division 5: Seven players went to post in Division 5 and all performed very well. Division stalwart Dennis McZeal found his way to the top of the podium again, this time with one of his lowest career rounds- a fine 86, which included a birdie on the par 3 17th! Teddy Abat didn’t make it easy on him though, matching Dennis’ 44 on the front 9 and another 44 on the back. Dennis’ birdie on 17 proved to be the winning margin, but Teddy didn’t go home empty handed- he claimed a $50 Visa Gift Card for 2nd, while Dennis has another trophy for his case and a $175 Visa Gift Card for his win!
