A beautiful afternoon greeted the players as they travelled northwest of Charlotte to play the Fox Run and Sulfur Springs 9’s at this private venue. Temperatures in the low to mid 70’s and just a breath of wind made the conditions ideal.
In Division 1, We had 13 players vying for the title. Ivan Jones (Triad) started out shaky with a double bogie to start the round. 4 birdies helped get the score on track and he finished with a score of 73 (+1). Finishing 1 stroke back with scores of 74 (+2) were two other Triad members, Kyle Moffett, and Seth Hawkins.
On the Senior Side, Scott Patnode (CLT) wins the Senior Division 1 contest with a score of 77 (+5). As luck would have it, Scott made only 1 birdie on the day on the tough 17th which held up for the only Division Skin in Divisions 1 and 2 for a win of $420.
Congrats Ivan and Scott!!
In Division 2, with 17 players in the field it was a close battle all day long with no more than a stroke separating the top players in the division. I was surprised that we did not have a on-course playoff to decide the winner. Chase Brown (CLT) with a great round of 77 (+5) wins by one shot over a bunch of players. We had a 4-way tie for second with Andy Pecora (CLT), Scott Nichols (CLT), Tim Beckham (CLT), Michael Levan (CLT) all finishing 1 shot back and splitting the 2nd and 3rd place prizes.
On the Senior side, it was a Tie for the win with Scott, Tim and Michael splitting the 1st and 2nd place prizes.
Congrats Chase, Scott, Tim and Michael !!!
In Division 3, the largest field of the day with 20 players resulted in another close finish with just 2 strokes separating the top 4 players. Returning to the victory circle was Terry Upright (CLT) claiming his second victory for 2023 with a score of 80 (+8). Alex Bechta (CLT) who was leading throughout much of the day settled for a tie for 2nd with Russell McDonald (CLT) with both players shooting 81 (+9). Rounding out the top 4 was Mike Mullins (CLT) with a score of 82 (+10)
On the Senior side just like the open side, it was McDonald that claimed the victory and Mullins that claimed second place.
Congrats Terry and Russell !!!
In Division 4 a field of 13 golfers battled it out. It was a late entry from the Road Warrior, Kip Moore (ATL) playing in his 25th event on the APT this season that leaves with a 1 shot victory shooting 87 (+15). 2nd place goes to Jimmy Sullivan (UPS) with a score of 88 (+16). We had a share for 3rd with Dan Rossi (CLT) and Charles Dixon (CLT) with both players shooting 89 (+17).
On the senior Side, It was Kip taking home the win and making it a true double dip.
Congrats Kip on your double dip!!!
In Division 5 we had a field of 12 on this day. Upstate member Danny Sullivan came in and took home the victory with a score of 94 (+22). Steve Daniels (CLT) had to settle for 2nd with a score of 97 (+25).
Like the open side, it was Danny Sullivan who took home top honors and made it a true Double Dip.
Congrats Danny on your Double DIp!!!
