Houston APT tour held a Mid-Season Major at Wildcat Golf Club on the Highlands course. The course set up was representative for what you would expect in a major tournament and provided a challenge for all competitors. Many of the Highlands’ tee boxes were visually intimidating, but players were rewarded with good tee shots to generous landing areas that rolled out. Skill, strategy, and mental toughness were required to take on the course along with perseverance to survive the 100-degree temperatures that Mother Nature dished out.
Division 1 crowned yet another new Houston APT member with their first win of the season. Jeremy Marusic (77) took 1st place, Philip Littlefield (81) took second place and Richard Michalsky (82) finished in third.
Division 2 went down to the wire... Troy White (77) held on to a 1-shot lead going into the back nine to secure a 1st place win. Barry Seabranch (78) had a strong finish but fell one shot out of the top spot to claim a solo second place and Jason Hawthorne (80) finished in third.
Division 3 winner Mike Gooch (80) went into the turn down by two but posted the lowest back 9 score of the tournament with an impressive 37 to claim 1st place. Pat Ryan (84) finished in second and first-time APT player Blaine Barcus (85) finished in third.
Division 4 was a hotly contested race with three players tied for the top spot! Alvin Miles (87), John Sparks (87) and Ellis Flores (87) headed back out to the course for a playoff. Ellis Flores earned 1st place when he drained a birdie putt on the second playoff hole. Alvin and John tied for second. Charles Ackerman (88) finished in fourth.
Division 5 had a repeat champion as Carolina Ackerman (87) claimed another 1st place finish in consecutive tournaments. Eddie Haynes (93) and Wayne Jackson (100) rounded out the top three.
First place in the Senior Net Division went to Troy White (-3). Mike Gooch (-2) and Barry Seabranch (-2) tied for second place.
Congratulations to all the winners!
