Tournament Champions
The Houston APT tour started the 2024 season at Eagle Pointe GC in Mont Belview, TX. We had rain forecasted for Friday and Saturday from a slow-moving weather front coming through. The rain from Friday evening was enough to keep us on the cart paths. The rain held off all day allowing a very eventful opening day. The course played a little long due to the wet conditions and was challenging for all divisions.
Division 1 was a tight race all day with new members Chance Lemoine and Donald Bradham ending in a tie at + 2(74) leading to the first playoff of the season. On the tough #10, Donald Bradham hit a great approach shot to within 5 ½ feet and rolled in a birdie for the win.
Division 2 was also a tight race all day and ended in a tie with Troy White and Darien Duhon having our second playoff of the day. This playoff went to hole #1 where Troy White took the win with a par.
Division 3 looked like a runaway at first with newcomer Daren Pickering shooting a 37 on the front nine. David Casey had two birdies on the back nine and was closing in, but Daren Pickering prevented the comeback with a par on 18 for the win by one +10(82). David Casey took second place at +11(83).
Division 4 was a battle on the front 9 between newcomer Ben Sandoval and APT veterans Dustin Waller, Charles Ackerman, and Alvin Miles. Ben Sandoval took a 1 stroke lead to the back 9 over Dustin Waller and 2 strokes over Charles Ackerman with Alvin Miles trailing by 5. The comeback round of the day goes to Alvin Miles who shot a solid 37 on the back 9 to win by 2(82).
Division 5 was a close race between Caroline Ackerman and Robert Vespa who trailed by one after the front nine. A steady back nine vaulted Robert Vespa to the win with an 87.
The Senior division was closely contested with Robert Vespa (-2) taking the win and a 3-way tie between Troy White, Daren Pickering, and Alvin Miles at (-1).
Congratulations to all the winners!
Next up is Bay Forest GC on April 6th. This tournament has limited spots and will close out a day earlier than normal. Sign up early to reserve your spot.
