The Nashville Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour travelled to Gallatin on Monday to compete on the Lakes Course at Tennessee Grasslands. It was a Chamber of Commerce day with abundant sunshine, slight breeze in the air and temperatures in the mid-80s. A rarity in Middle Tennessee for an August day. 97 players competed for contest prizes of over $3,750 and almost $2,400 paid out in our optional side games. The course was in phenomenal shape and the players had a test on their hands with the challenging greens with their speed and firmness.
Division 1
Matt Mitchell from Burns outlasted Atlanta Chapter’s Nathan Frazier by one stroke to take the top prize. Mitchell posted his round of 3-over 75 to edge Frazier’s 4-over 76.
Division 2
Brentwood’s Ryan Kieswetter scores the two-stroke victory with his round of 3-over 75. Coming in 2nd, Murfreesboro’s Micheal Lynn as he posted 5-over 77. Gallatin’s Derek Breeding takes the 3rd place prize with his round of 7-over 79. Todd Schrock, also hailing from Gallatin, finishes with 8-over 80 to claim 4th place.
Division 3
Drew McCool from Nashville puts together a fantastic round after a rough start to finish on top of the leaderboard with a 6-stroke victory. McCool posted 4 birdies en route to his 4-over 76. In a 2nd place tie were Murfreesboro’s Marcel Sow and Nashville Chapter co-owner Chris Guthrie. Both finished the day at 10-over 82. In a 4th place tie were Bryan Harwell from Lewisburg and Sean Samuels from Nashville with their rounds of 12-over 84. Taking 6th was Lebanon’s Kevin Smith with a round of 13-over 85.
Division 4
Nolensville’s Stephen Geltch eeks out the one-stroke victory over Primm Springs’ Basil Hall. Geltch was able to get it in to the house with a 16-over round of 88 to best Hall’s 17-over 89. Springfield’s Craig Smith finishes the day at 18-over 90 to claim the 3rd place prize.
Division 5
This contest required an additional playoff hole between Brentwood’s Rachel Guthrie and Memphis Chapter owner, Arthur Miller. Both finished their rounds at 21-over 93. Miller prevailed in the playoff to take the 1st place trophy and prize, while Guthrie takes 2nd place. Cookeville’s Becky Blalock finished two strokes out of 1st with her 23-over round of 95 to take the 3rd place prize.
Open Net competition
Micheal Lynn continues his good play and makes it back-to-back Open Net wins with his 1-under round of 71. Kevin Smith and Arthur Miller split the 2nd place prize with their net rounds of 3-over 75.
Senior Net competition
Chris Guthrie takes the 1st place prize with his net round of 2-under 70 and bested Derek Breeding by two strokes. Rachel Guthrie finishes in 3rd place with a net round of 2-over 74.
