Tour Stop #5 Battle in the Desert Elevated event at Terra Lago North and Eagle Falls Results and Recap

Our 2025 seasons first Elevated Event, Double points, Double Money, Tournament, the Battle in the Desert brought us great weather, 72 and no wind both days!  Phil VanGeersdaelen from North Carolina, the National Operations Director for the APT was in the field.  Felix Monjes, the NorCal Chapter Director of the APT was in the Field, players from Arizona, Nevada, were also joining us to try and win the awesome decanter trophy!  Most importantly Roberto Covarrubius who lost his home in the Alta Dena fire was also able to join us with a great attitude.  The APT was able to bless him with 2 bags full clothes and products from the APT to help him in this difficult time.  Lets continue to pray for him and others as they sort through all of this.  Here we go with the Recap of the Battle in the Desert.

Division 1:  Players were ready to go to battle day 1 at Terra Lago North, however it was the course that seemed to win the battle as 79 was the leading score.  Guest Greg Delgado (Corona, CA) was in the lead by 1 over Berkecem Renda (Westminster, CA).  Angel Sotelo (Downey, CA) Struggled to an 85 but could he rally on day 2?  Day 2 brought us to the beautiful course of Eagle Falls and all players along with Liam Pecina (La Habra, CA) were all in the final group.  Greg on the par 5 7th hole, had to take a 10 which set him back and opened the door for Berkecem and Angel to get back into it.  Angel continued to play well and ended up shooting a 77, securing the victory in Division 1.  Greg ended 2nd and Berkecem 3rd.

Division 2:  North Carolina, Arizona, NorCal, and SoCal players were ready to battle in division 2.  Curt Bressner (Buckeye, AZ) player of the year for Arizona Chapter played well and was out strong with a 74 and low round of the day.  However, only 2 shots behind with a 76 was now Division 2 player Vinny O’Brien (Sun Valley, CA).  The rest of the field struggled a bit more and would have to try and position themselves for points on day 2.  Curt and Vinnie were battling back and forth, and it was tight but Curt still held a 2 shot lead.  Then they came to the now famous 14th hole that had all players frustrated including Curt who took an 8 as the pin was in a bad position.  Another player took a 9 putt on that hole.  So, this created a tie with 4 holes to play.  Curt birdied the 15th and Vinny just couldn’t catch him leaving Curt with the Victory.  Vinny took second and Phil VanGeersdaelen ( North Carolina) ended up third.

Division 3: Once again one of our largest fields was in division 3.  Will Kamp (Los Angeles, CA) Sean Story (Las Vegas, NV) and David Raffety (Fallbrook, CA) were our leaders after day 1.  Will shot a good round of 83 to have a 4-shot lead heading into day 2.  Also in contention was Aaron Steinberg (Torrance, CA) and Ryan Maramis (Corona, CA)  Day 2 saw Aaron Steinberg coming from behind and making a bunch of birdies to post the leading score with the final group still on the course.  Sean kept pushing Will, but Will kept meeting the challenge and continued his strong play from day 1.  The only blemish for Will was a triple bogey 8 on the last hole but he still was able to hold on for the win with another 83!  Sean had to make sure to finish strong on 18 to hold on to second and Aaron finished 3rd.  Congrats to Will and his $400.00 first place prize money and trophy.

Division 4:  Our largest field in the tournament was division 4.  Our last 3 tournament champs were in the field.  Dave Davidson (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) Saul Armendariz (Granada Hills, CA) and Russel Eustice (Ft. Irwin, CA).  However after day 1, it was tour veteran Kurt Odegard (Yorba Linda, CA) and Brad Forsyth (Alta Loma, CA) who were in the lead with an 86 and 88. Dave and Saul were both in the final group shooting 90 on day 1 and in contention.  Day 2 at Eagle Falls was a true test of accuracy.  After the front nine, all 4 players were neck and neck battling back and forth.  Kurt started to struggle as did Saul and Brad and Dave were both coming down the stretch in a tight battle.  On 18 Brad made birdie to put the pressure on Dave who had to have par in order to keep his 1 shot victory.  His 25 ft birdie putt was great pace and left him with a tap in 1 ft put to secure his win and back-to-back wins on the APT.  Brad took second and our one female golfer Baska Tugsgerel (Irvine, CA) took 3rd.  Congrats to Dave on his win and $380.00 for first.

Division 5: Great to have last year’s Division 5 player of the year Kirk Olmos (Moreno Valley, CA) back in the field.  After day one it was Eddy Moore (Menifee, CA) who played a great round at Terra Lago of 94 and gave himself a 5 shot lead going into day 2 over Tommy Weatherby (Sun City, CA). Could Eddy hold on to the lead and take his first win?  Day 2 Kirk, Eddy, Tommy, and Ronak Desai (Irvine, CA) were in the final group. Eddy was playing solid and even won a CTP on hole 16 for $100.  However, Kirk also won a CTP hitting it to 6ft and keeping himself in contention.  On the back nine Tommy started playing well and was making a move and was in second position, but nothing was stopping Eddy from taking his first win on tour with a great D5 round of 88, and an 8 shot victory and $250! Congrats Eddy on the win and double points!

Senior Net contest: With Eddy Moore shooting such a great round with his handicap he ended up shooting 9 under par and also took first in the senior Net.  Second went to Dave Davidson and third to Brad Forsyth.

Open Net Contest: Will Kamp (Los Angeles, CA) with his solid rounds of 83 in division 3, shot +1 net over 2 days and also won the Open net and another $300! Aaron Steinberg was 2nd and again Baska Tugsgerel took 3rd.
