Amateur Players Tour of Florida – Southwest Tournament Recap 

Bobby Jones Golf Club – April 26, 2025 

On April 26, we kicked off the 2025 regular season of the Florida Southwest Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour at Bobby Jones Golf Club!  We welcomed 46 players (our biggest event so far!) on a beautiful spring day!  We had lots of familiar faces with a healthy bunch of new faces!  Highlights of the day included: 

• Division 1: After the front 9, Pierson Gill took a 3-shot lead into the back 9 with Chase Bertrand and Frank Almasy at +5, and Dylan Randall at +7.  Randall was the only person to gain ground on Gill with an even par back-9.  Bertrand played a very steady 1-over par back 9, and Almasy was only 2-over, but Gill answered with a 1-over par himself to take home the win!  One of 2 guests to win!   

• Division 2: This was a tight race all day!  Steve Mullins and Daren Green both fired even par 36 front 9 scores, with Frank Gomes, just a few back at +4.  Gomes would turn it around for a +2 back 9 to gain on both Mullins and Green!  Green had the lead at even par through 13 holes, but bogies on the last 5 holes put Green in the clubhouse at +5.  Mullins was just 1-up on Green heading to 18, when he birdied the last to take home the 2-shot victory!  Our second guest winner!   

• Division 3: Chris Scott turned in a very good +3 front 9 score to take a lead over Marcus Clifford (+6), Gary Eimont (+7), Jim Cochrane (+8), and Stephen Leadbetter (+9).  Scott widened the lead on 10 with a birdie, one of his 3 birdies on the day, and never looked back, taking the win by 7.  Eimont and Clifford both had birdies and chances to close the gap but could reel Scott back in!   

• Division 4:   Division 4 was a good one!  Paul DiCaprio and John Oursler both made the turn at +5, with Dan Eaton just 2 shots   back and Gregg Carr 4 behind.  On the back, Carr improved by 3 shots and finished at +15, while Oursler fell back a little with a +8 on the back for a +13.  Eaton also improved on the back with a +5, but newcomer, DiCaprio played the back in +3 leading to a 4-shot victory!   

• Division 5: This one saw tour veteran, Dave Densieski, jump out to a 4-shot lead over Rick Gill and 5 over Jake Wilson.  Densieski started out strong on the back, but he faltered at 15 and 17 to shoot a +12 on the back and take home 2nd. Gill turned things around with a +7 on the back 9 and took home the one-shot victory!  Definitely a very close one!    

• Senior Net: 16 out of the 24 eligible players participated in the Senior Net game, with Manuel Collins, John Oursler, and Daren Green all carding -2 scores on the front 9, and Frank Almasy and Dan Eaton just a few back at +1.  Collins kept up the torrid pace with a -2 on the back to take first place!  Almasy and Eaton both turned it around with -1 on the back, but they fell one short of Oursler who shot +1 on the back (-1 overall) and took home second!   

A huge thank you goes out to John Ellis and the entire staff at Bobby Jones Golf Club for having the course in great shape!  Everyone was friendly and very helpful!
