Tournament Champions
The Carolina Triad Amateur Players Tour returned to Jamestown Park Golf Club on Sunday, November 1st in Jamestown, NC for one of the premier Triad amateur golf tournaments on the chapter’s schedule. A field of 43 players competed across five divisions plus the Mid-Am Net and Senior Net games, with players flighted into divisions based on their APT Tournament Index.
The par-72 layout defended itself best on the inward half. The par-4 11th was the hardest hole on the property, surrendering no birdies at all and playing better than a shot and a half over par, while the par-3 4th was the day’s friendliest, giving up five birdies and 16 pars. The par 5s were where the field found something: Christian Alderucci eagled both the 2nd and the 15th, the only two eagles made all day.
Division 1 needed more than 18 holes to decide a champion. Alex Jackson of Monroe, NC and Tom Chuaypradit of Raleigh, NC both signed for 7-over 79, and Jackson took the title in a playoff. Jackson led by one after six holes, then watched Chuaypradit edge a stroke in front through 12 and again through 15. Jackson’s lone birdie came at the par-3 4th, and he played the final three holes in even par to force extra holes. Chuaypradit turned in 2-over 38 after a birdie at the par-4 7th. Ivan Jones of High Point, NC finished third at 9-over 81, having trimmed seven shots of deficit down to two over the closing stretch.
Joseph Vide of Raleigh, NC posted the low round of the day in Division 2, a 5-over 77 built on birdies at the par-5 6th and the par-5 12th and nines of 2-over 38 and 3-over 39. It was a two-shot win over Juan Sedano of Kernersville, NC, who turned the round around on the way home — Sedano came back in even-par 36 with 12 pars on the card and played the last six holes in even par to post 7-over 79. Terrance Newsome of Winston Salem, NC took third at 10-over 82. Seven players finished within seven shots of the lead.
Division 3 belonged to Allen Hagen of Indian Trail, NC, whose 9-over 81 produced a nine-shot win. Hagen birdied the par-5 6th and the par-5 15th, went out in 4-over 40 and came home in 5-over 41, and was never headed. Bill Mock of Kernersville, NC and Michael Fitzgerald of Kannapolis, NC shared second.
Division 4 came down to a single stroke. Eric Seibert of Charlotte, NC led after six, fell a shot behind Michael Roane of Durham, NC by the turn home, and was level with three to play before closing out a 17-over 89 to Roane’s 18-over 90. Seibert made his ground on the inward nine, coming home in 7-over 43 after a 10-over 46 start. Keegan Jerabek of Charlotte, NC and Rocky Griggs of Winston-Salem, NC tied for third at 20-over 92, with five players finishing within five of the lead.
In Division 5, Joe Hill of Charlotte, NC led from the front and won by five. Hill went out in 6-over 42 and signed for 20-over 92. Keith Thomas of Greensboro, NC was runner-up at 25-over 97, with Billy Jones of Archdale, NC third at 30-over 102.
The Mid-Am Net game went to Jerabek, whose net 5-over 77 edged Ivan Jones by a single stroke on net 6-over 78. Corey Mitchell of Greensboro, NC was third at net 14-over 86.
Senior Net finished in a tie at the top, Hagen and Hill both returning net 1-over 73 to share the points and the purse. Seibert and Sedano were a shot back in a share of third at net 2-over 74, rounding out the money positions. Fifteen of the 20 entrants finished within seven of the lead. Both Hagen and Hill completed the double-dip, each pairing a division title with a share of the Senior Net crown, while Sedano and Seibert each backed up a gross result with a net check.
