41 players from 6 different chapters converged in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains at the Sevierville Club on Saturday. There were several close division races including a playoff in Division 1.
Div 1- Shawn Reese found himself with a 5 shot lead through 10 holes but tour vet, Tim Saunders was not ready to throw in the towel. Saunders managed to play the final 7 holes 2 under and when Reese faltered coming down the stretch, the 2 players were tied after regulation. It only took 1 hole of sudden death as Saunders found the penalty area off the tee and Reese took home the victory for his first of the year.
Div 2- This was a close contest from the beginning as 5 players finished within 5 shots of the lead. Johnny Pierce was the victor when it was all said and done as Pierce shot a 6 over, 78, one better than Mike Wilkins.
Div 3- Bill Russell made the journey up from Greer, SC and was rewarded. Russell shot a 3 over 39 on the back nine to close out Knoxville’s Kelley Vincent, who placed 2nd, and won by 4 shots.
Div 4- After doubling the 1st hole, Andrew Roskind never looked back as he proceeded to play the final 17 holes 9 over par and shoot an 83. Paul Harris finished in 2nd with an 86.
Div 5- Daniel Andrews made the turn at 10 over par and trailed Dale Dantzler and Robbie Carlton by one shot. He continued his steady play on the back and even managed to make a great birdie on the par 4 15th which sent him on his way to victory. Sean Cawood used a solid back 9 to come in 2nd. Dale Dantlzer, Terry Hodge, and Robbie Carlton all tied for 3rd after shooting 97.
