Warrior Golf Club Tournament Results

This past weekend, the Amateur Players Tour – Charlotte Played Warrior Golf Club in China Grove North Carolina.  

Warrior has completed plenty of work to the course over recent years as it works to reclaim its notoriety from years past.The work has paid dividends as the par 71 course is in great shape from tee to green.

Division 1 saw a tight battle all day long with 6 players making the turn separated by two shots. Daniel Jackson (37-38-75), Chris Barnard (37-37-74) and Scott Roberts (37-37-74) at +2, Scott Patnode (36-36-72) at +1 while Dennis Reames (35-39-74) and Andrew McGee (35-38-73) turned at even par. The back nine would be a bit more challenging for the top of the leaderboard. An untimely bogey and a couple of missed birdie putts would have a few of the contenders fall back, both McGee and Patnode would go back and forth for the lead. McGee would go birdie, bogey, birdie, bogey and finish the day at +2 and second place. Patnode couldn’t get his birdie putts to fall but never let the frustration get the better of him. Scott would have one bogey on the day with 17 pars to secure another win this season. He added a couple more bogies offset by a birdie on the back nine, add them up and he secured second place. The day belonged to Joe Cannatti (39-36-74) as he limited his five dropped shots on the day to bogie. Joe would add back to back birdies late in the round to secure his first ever victory by two shots.

Division 3 saw two of the top three players separate themselves from the pack. William Buie (43-36-79) provided the motivational story of the day. Having shot, by his account, a very ugly 43 on the front nine, kept his focus heading into the back nine. With a bogey, birdie and par the rest, came home in 36 to secure third place.Matt Forman didn’t get off to the ideal start, with a double on the reachable par 5 first hole. Matt kept his focus as turned in 39

Division 2 saw players shooting in the 70’s for over half of the field. The leaders separated themselves by 4 shots as the dust settled. Terry Upright (39-36-75) and Joe Zebrecky (36-39-75) found themselves tied for fourth. Terry wins the scorecard playoff per the USGA formula for tie breakers. Sac Bounphasysol (36-36-72) and Brandon Moss (34-38-72) would tie for second place. Following the scorecard playoff rules, Brandon takes third, while Sac takes second with his best round ever. Scott Nichols (35-36-71) playing in his first APT event of the year, would shoot a level par 35 on the front nine without dropping a shot. Scott continued his steady play on the back nine as went under par briefly with a birdie on 12 before finishing the round and securing the victory at level par 71.

Division 5 would require an on course playoff to determine the winner. Derek Kemp (41-46-87) would be the early clubhouse leader. Derek mentioned he played well off the tee and on the greens. Grant Childress (42-45-87) would find himself two shots back at the turn. While most players new to tournament golf may believe the day was lost, Grant just kept grinding away putting the best score he could on the card. The players would head to the first hole in a sudden death playoff, Grant would make par to Derek’s bogie to secure his first victory.

Division 4 was another tight contest all day.with 8 players making the turn within 4 shots, the back nine would be a shootout for the victory. Brian Gregor (40-41-81) birdied the 10th hole to put himself in good position for the win. He would stumble in the middle of the back nine and settle for third after a scorecard playoff. Joe Lewis (43-38-81) would leverage his experience to climb his way back up the leaderboard with a nice birdie on 17 and take second place on the scorecard playoff. Another veteran would use his experience to plod along never getting too high or low. Vic Lawrence (40-39-79), would play steady all day limiting the damage of his dropped shots. Adding a couple of late birdies all but secured his victory.
