The Half Moon Bay Ocean Course event was our eighth event for the Northern California Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour. First I would like to thank the out of town members for joining us in Northern California(Aaron Farkas - Phoenix and Tim Bias - Southern California) thank you both for making the trip to North Cal! As expected in Half Moon Bay, we were greeted with cool temperatures, marine layer and light breezes, fortunately the breezes stayed calm and the sunshine did eventually appear for what could only be only described as great weather for golf.

In Division 1, Ony Velez got back to his winning ways after a disappointing second place up in Tahoe a few weeks back. As he stated at check-in he was upset with his second place finish in Tahoe and was looking forward to getting back on track. It can only be said that he achieved his goal in shooting a very solid +2 74 and besting 2nd place finisher Kent Kao by 6. For his solid effort, Ony won a $75 Visa Giftcard and Surfboard-themed trophy! We look forward to seeing Ony at the California State Championship from October 2nd to 3rd and the National Championship at Pinehurst from October Oct 25th to 27th.
In Division 2, Aaron Farkas(83) took the Surfboard-themed trophy and $100 Visa Gift card home with him. Aaron made the trip to North Cal from Phoenix for cooler temperatures and to compete on one of his favorite courses, we appreciate Aaron for visiting us. Early on CY Kim was the player to catch after opening up a three-shot lead after seven, but it would be a triple on the eighth that would bring him back to the field. After the opening nine CY maintained a two-shot lead over Jack Snell. The leaderboard would again get compact after the 15th with CY, Aaron & Jack tied, and Matt Fegley one back. The closing three holes would be where we would find our winner. Jack would be the lone bogey on 16, joining Matt one back of CY and Aaron. The group would move to the 17th where Matt would eliminate himself from contention after hitting his tee shot a bit left catching the cliff and winding up next to the pacific ocean. Aaron and Jack left the 17th with par while CY made bogey. On the 18th tee Aaron held a one shot lead over Jack and CY as the players reached the green Jack had a birdie attempt just miss allowing Aaron to make a comfortable par for the win. Matt and CY will be playing in Phoenix at the APT Troon North National Major. We hope to see all the players at the California State Championship from October 2nd to 3rd and the National Championship at Pinehurst from October Oct 25th to 27th.
In Division 3, new member Steven Archuleta(82) was our champion taking home the surfboard themed trophy and $155 Visa Giftcard. Our second place finisher new member Rob Steves(86) took home a $45 Visa Giftcard. The opening nine saw play from three players, Tim Bias(40), Rob(41) and Steve(41) separate themselves from the field. The battle was close as the players left the 12th green within two shots of each other and where we would see a strong closing stretch for our winner. Steven would put together a closing five hole stretch of two bogeys and three pars leading to his victory. Congrats to Steven and Rob, we look forward to seeing you at our future events! Thanks again to Tim for making the trip to North Cal! AJ Quintero and Nathaniel Berumen will be making the trip to Phoenix for the APT Troon North National Major. In addition to these already scheduled players, we hope to see all the Division 3 players at the California State Championship from October 2nd to 3rd and the National Championship at Pinehurst from October Oct 25th to 27th.
In Division 4, Don Harris(87) continued his winning ways, where it came down to the 18th hole after a very game challenge from guest player Todd Brown(90). Todd opened the front nine with a solid 43 to Don's opening 45. The players would battle back and forth on the back nine and walked up to the 18th tee all square. Don would win the 18th with a par completing his round with an 87 and claim his fifth victory of the year. We hope to see both Don, Todd and all the Division 4 players at at the California State Championship from October 2nd to 3rd and the National Championship at Pinehurst from October Oct 25th to 27th.
In Division 5, second time player Jeffrey Hidalgo(90) was our champion. Jeffrey completed the opening nine with a solid 45 opening a three-shot lead over John Spradling and his 48. Jeffrey would match his 45 on the back nine and finish his round with a very solid 90 and his first victory. Congrats Jeffrey, we look forward to seeing you at future events, maybe the California State Championship or even the National Championship. Felix will be in Phoenix for the APT Troon North National Major as well as the California State Championship and National Championship in Pinehurst. John will be making the trip to Pinehurst as well for the National Championship. We hope John's schedule can work out and can join us at the California State Championship.
