The Birmingham Chapter 2022 Calendar Season kicked off in Hoover, AL with 56 Players from 4 different Chapters. Players experienced a beautiful and breezy spring afternoon with a bit of wind thrown in just to challenge the players even more. Ross Bridge, although still dormant in the rough, was in great shape with the bent grass greens and overseeded green fairways.
In Division 1 we had 11 players competing. Visiting Kentucky Chapter member Eric King who came to escape a little cold weather, came out shooting even on the front with a mix of two birdies and two bogies. His playing partner, National Owner Matt Minder kept within striking distance all day and strong birdie on 18 caused a playoff between the two after both shooting 73. In the end it was Eric King who was victorious after the first hole playoff. Max Faure and Matt Barnes tied for third, both shooting 75.
In Division 2, Terry Szymczyk started out two over on the front nine and kept his momentum going shooting one over on the back for a final score of 75. His rock-solid play earned him the win 3 strokes ahead of Don Manuel. Don started off a little shaky but closed the gap shooting even par on the back 9 with a final score of 78 to secure second place, just edging Nashville’s John Hipp who shot 79.
In Division 3 we had our largest field of 16 players battling it out. David Brady had homefield advantage going 38-40 for a 78, and a 3 shot lead to capture the Division 3 title. We had a tie for second between Tyler Slaten and Kevin Martin both shooting 81.
In Division 4 we thought there might be a 3-way playoff at +19, however after validating scorecards it was determined Cody Doles had a score of +17 for the outright win. Visiting Chapter Owner from Nashville, Joe Smolira and Birmingham player Danny Daniels share the second-place finish both shooting +19.
In Division 5 Parker White took the lead early with a front nine 41 and finished with an 88 to secure the victory. Terry Hodge came in second with at +26, edging Brandon Burroughs who shot +27.
