Greensboro National Golf Tournament Results

There were 60 players in a sold out event ready to take on the challenges of Greensboro National golf course in Summerfield, NC. 

In Division 1 we had 10 players in the field. The day for most players started out slow but as the weather warmed up the scores surely did as well. Charlottes’ Wesley Jones jumped out to an early lead on the front nine with a score of 37. However, the 2021 North American Champion was in the field down 2 with 6 holes remaining Eric King goes 3 under par in that stretch to come back and win by 1 shot. King shot 74(+2) and runner up Wesley Jones 7(+3). In the Senior Division 1 double dip Park Williams secures that victory with a score of 81. 

In Division 2 we had 15 players ready to attack the layout. Dave Field of Raliegh, NC put on a dominant performance to win the event by an impressive margin. Field shot 72(E) to be 6 shots clear of any other player in the field. We had a 3-way tie for second place between Pedro Montoya, Chris Berry and Brandon Mabe.  Using the players back nine scores Berry secures 2nd and Montoya takes home 3rd. In the Senior Division 2 double dip Pedro Montoya wins the event by 3 shots. In the runner up position for Seniors we had Richard Johnson with a score of 81(+9). 

In Division 3 we return to another tight race between Aaron Tripp and Warren Hackler. The 2 players battled the back nine going back and forth. The matchup came down to the final hole and in the end, Aaron Tripp won the event with a score of 81(+9). Hackler finishes in 2nd place with a score of 82(+10) and rounding out the top 3 was Herbert White from Charlotte with a score of 86(+14). In Senior Division 3 double dip Mr. Hackler wins that contest with round of 82(+10). 2nd place in the open and winner in Senior result in a good day on the links. Well done!!! 

Our Division 4 today also had a great performance put on by 2021 Local Player of the Year Christy McCauley. McCauley had been searching for her game to return to the level she played last season. Well today seems to be the first step to that process by winning the event with a score of 88(+16) to win by 4 shots over closest competitor. The win today also secures the win the open Division but also, she takes full advantage of the Double Dip format and also wins the Senior Division 4 Double Dip. Congratulations! 

In Division 5 we had 12 players set to take on the course. Early on Michael Charles takes the early lead in the round. However, there were several players in striking distance to catch and take the lead. On the final 9 Charles stays steady and comes in with a score of 90(+18). At this point Charles has the clubhouse lead but Christopher Tuggle can birdie the final hole to force playoff. Tuggle hit his approach shot to about 15 ft and has a chance to force playoff. Tuggle putt is just outside the cup!! Tuggle takes 2nd place. Charles wins the event the day before his birthday! Congratulations and Happy Birthday Mike! In the Senior Division 5 Double we had a tie between Hector Luna and Steve Daniels with score of 93(+21). Congratulations guys!!
