he APT Tulsa Chapter contested its first “Local Major” of the season at “The Club at Forest Ridge” in Broken Arrow this past Saturday. This fantastic Randy Heckenkemper design was in fabulous condition and together with the heat and humidity, provided the players looking to take a big leap in the POY races, a stern challenge leading into the event.
Division 1 Division 1 has yet to have a two-time winner as Kiefer, Oklahoma’s Andy Proctor started out by parring the front nine on his way to a division winning 73 and climbing to the top of the POY race by virtue of the double points event. Rick Coatney and newcomer Matt Herring rounded out the podium with solid rounds of 75 to share second.
Division 2 Division 2 saw Josh Linn of Muscogee overcome a poor front nine to settle in and play winning golf over the final nine holes, firing a 37 of the back for a winning total of 79. Linn took a tight POY race and firmly cemented himself as the player to beat over the final events leading up to the Tour Finals at Shangri-La Resort. Justin Barrett and Jim Jenkins closed with 38’s for scores of 80 to tie for second.
Division 3 D3, the largest contingent of players at Forest Ridge with 18, again saw a first-time winner when Ryan Holloway picked up the win. Paul Stanton tied Holloway with an 84 but had to leave upon completion of his round, handing the victory to Holloway. Norman Springwater continued his solid play this year by finishing third. Holloway leaped over several players into fourth place in the D3 standings while TJ Toney, who looked to pick up his second win of the season before double bogies on the last two holes derailed his chances, became the clear favorite for POY in division 3.
Division 4 After admitting to being tired of getting his rear end whipped, Patrick Goodnight turned the tables on the D4 field by shooting a nice 83 and get himself into the winner’s circle. Goodnight also jumped into the points lead with his victory Saturday at Forest Ridge. Bill Casey gave chase until a double bogey on the last took him out of the win. Casey finished second with Don Naifeh taking third.
Division 5 Newcomer Stan Hobbs of Bentonville Arkansas fired a smooth 90 to take top honors in D5. Hobbs won over Bentonville Arkansas’s Dylan Wolf and Trip Montgomery of Bristow, Oklahoma. Brodey Young of Tuttle holds a slim 40-point lead over Wolf and 85 points over Montgomery heading into the stretch run for POY.
Senior Net Rick Coatney picked up win #2 in Senior Net with his 75 on Saturday and took firm control of the Senior Net POY race. Justin Barrett and Jim Jenkins shared second while Dennis Joyce and Paul Stanton took home fourth place.
APT Tulsa heads over to Winter Creek Golf and Social Club in Blanchard Oklahoma on July 8th. Hope to see everyone there.
