On Father’s Day weekend, players travelled to Muscle Shoals, AL to compete for prizes totaling over $10,600. Ninety-five players teed it up over two days at the Fighting Joe and Schoolmaster courses on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The event was hosted by the Birmingham, Memphis and Nashville chapters. The play was extremely competitive all weekend and extra holes needed for two divisions.
In Division 1, John Cacchio from Nashville posted back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish with a two-day total of 146 and claim 1st place by one stroke over Luke Smith (73-74) from Covington. Ed McDugle (74-74) from Memphis and Tommy Jean (77-71) from Sumiton, AL both finish in a tie for 3rd place.
In Division 2, a three hole, three-way playoff was required to decide the winner. Sean Pierce (78-76) from Marietta, GA made three straight pars in the playoff to capture the 1st place trophy over Lee Edwards (78-76) from Birmingham, AL and James Davis (76-78) from Roswell, GA.
In Division 3, Shawn Powers (77-86) from Athens, GA led wire-to-wire and captured the win by one stroke. David McBride (79-85) from Muscle Shoals, AL made it close as both players were tied heading into the back nine. Tied for 3rd place were Darek Paul (83-82) from Murfreesboro and Bryan Harwell (84-81) from Lewisburg.
In Division 4, Mike Penn (85-84) from Arab, AL also led wire-to-wire with a two-day total of 169, besting Will Houston (86-85) from Brentwood by two strokes. Kenneth Robbins (89-84) from Hartselle, AL finishes in 3rd place with a two-day total of 173.
In Division 5, three players were tied at-the-top after 36 holes. Thurman Boyd (90-98) from Smyrna, Todd Gober (92-96) from Pleasant Grove, AL and Trey Horrell (95-93) from Memphis finished Sunday’s round with two-day totals of 188. The playoff lasted one hole which took place on Schoolmaster’s par 4 18th. Gober was able to avoid the big number, post a bogey and take the win.
In Senior Net, Shawn Powers capitalizes on his Division 3 win to also take Senior Net with a two-day score of net 144. Finishing one stroke back was Ed McDugle with a total of 145. Mike Penn takes 3rd with a total of 146 and coming in a 4th place tie were Bryan Harwell and Vince Vaghela from Southhaven, MS with a total of 148.
