Another beautiful and blessed day this past Sunday in a beautiful desert of Pahrump, Nevada, where 52 players competed for player of the year race at Mountain Falls Golf Club. They are in great shape with greens rolling quite fast. Overall, this was another successful event for the Las Vegas Amateur Players Tour during our NYE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Division 1 – Some great competition in this division as reigning player of the year Andrew Yeh and Garret Keiffer both fired a 73 and needed to go to an extra hole. Both players hit the fairway with their tee shots on the tough 18th hole. Andrew hit first and his shot finished in the bunker just left of the green. Garret then took dead aim with his second shot that finished about 10 feet from the flag. Andrew failed to get up and down to save par and Garret 2 putted to earn his first Championship for the year. The playoffs were exciting, and Garret pulled through for the win. It was great seeing you again Garret, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Division 2 – This was a battle most of the day between the two APT Chapter owners, Hendra Wijaya [80] and Kreg Klaver [78]. Wijaya took a 2 shot lead after 2 holes, but Klaver battled back with a couple birdies to take the lead most after the 13th hole. Klaver three putted hole 13 and Wijaya was within one shot heading to their final hole, the tough 14th par 3. Wijaya hit a great tee shot just over the flag to about 18 feet. Klaver then stepped up and hit a great one to about 12 feet. Wijaya left his birdie just 6 inches short and then Klaver sealed the championship with a birdie to win by two. Both chapter owners are in great form heading into the next National Major at Chambers Bay for Labor Day Weekend. Congrats Kreg for your first win this season!
Division 3 – Shooting his personal best in tournament play, Matt Baiza [74] secured his second win of the season over 2nd place finisher Tyrese Patterson [79]. Baiza carded 3 birdies and was in total control of his game all day and is in great form heading into the PWG Invitational. Baiza has his sights set on player of the year honors and going to the National finals in Mrytle Beach with great confidence next month and winning the Championship. Keep up the good work Matt!
Division 4 – What a development we have in first year member Sean Butterfield [82]. Sean has only been playing competitive golf for a short time, but now has 2 wins on the APT tour and is looking to secure player of the year and winning the National Championship title in Mrytle Beach next month. Douglas Dillingham [85] took second place and Brian Fiscus [88] and Ramon Dumancas [88] both tied for third.
Division 5 – Another tight finish in this highly competitive division as first year tour player Anthony Altemoos [85] held off the legendary APT tour player Matt Walden [87] to secure his first APT championship. Brodi Strong [88] took third alone. Congratulations Anthony on this impressive win.
Senior Net – A tournament inside the main tournament, and championship honors go to division 3 player Tyrese Patterson [Net -4]. Division 2 player Kreg Klaver [Net -2] took second and division 1 player Andrew Yeh [Net -1] finished third. Congratulations Ty on this impressive win!
