Temecula Creek Inn golf course is a beautiful course located in the wine country of Temecula. The course was in excellent shape and provided a perfect mixture of risk and reward. Overcast clouds gave way to sun and some windy conditions in the valley. Our divisional winners had their hands full on this course that played in US Open conditions with tall rough, fast greens, and windy conditions, proved to be a handful for most, but a few prevailed.
Division 1
In Division 1, Harrison Diemert (San Diego) jumped out to an early lead with a solid round of 8-over par 80, with Richard Cass (San Diego) also posting an 80. Two other players battled it out to get into the playoffs only to have Ryan Huang (Rancho Santa Margarita} bogey 18 to shoot 81 and Jarrett Leon (Dana Point) also fall short with an 81. Harrison Diemert and Richard Cass went to the 10th hole for a playoff that brought Harrison the victory with a par on the first hole to take home the wine barrel trophy!
Division 2
Division 2 saw Chris Hanson, (Murrieta) one of last season’s contenders for player of the year jump out to an opening 4 over through 9 holes and he maintained his lead over Kyle Cardoza (Anaheim) and Troy Shedeed (Murrieta) until 17 and 18 where he took two double bogeys to end up third with an 85. Kyle Cardoza played steady golf and finished par, par, to close out a round of 80, but he had to wait it out until Chris Hanson finished his round to seal the win. This is Kyle’s first win of the 2023 season.
Division 3
Division 3 was our largest field of the day with 11 players and returning D3 Player of the year John Dwyer III (Ventura) was back in the field! It was a tough day for all the D3 players as the winning score ended up at 88 and a tie for second went to a 90 by Scott Chalayan Cessna (Anaheim) and Randal Araiza (Camarillo) This second place finish puts Scott in the lead for Player of the year in Division 3
Division 4
Our smallest field of the tournament was in D4 with 3 players battling for the wine barrel trophy. Veteran to the tour Ron Araiza (Santa Paula) posted an 85 only to be outdone by Tyler Ruzi (San Clemente) with a 92. Tyler was excited to claim his second win of the season and take home the wine barrel trophy. Kurt Odegard (Anaheim Hills) last tournaments D4 winner didn’t fare as well this time.
Division 5
Division 5 saw 3 newcomers to the tour, Kirk Olmos (Moreno Valley), Robert Olmos (Ontario) and Matthew Sheehan (Canyon Lake). It was a close battle until the end and a playoff looked to be in order only to find a scorecard discrepancy at the scoring table that put a 96 Tommy Weatherby (Sun City) into the winner's circle! Mercer Morgan III (Riverside) last tournaments D5 winner ended up second with a 97.
Senior net
Our Senior net division was close all tournament and a wine barrel trophy was on the line at this tour stop. It looked like Troy Shedeed (Murrieta) was going to take the title until the score cards were tabulated and entered into the computer correctly only to see Morgan Mercer III (Riverside) come out ahead and take the wine barrel trophy for senior net with a field of 13 players.
