Tournament Champions
The first major of the 2025 season kicked off at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, MS at the Azaleas and the Oaks course. Known as the “Augusta You Can Play”, Dancing Rabbit features an elegant, yet simple design that highlights tree-lined fairways and large white-sand bunkers that frame each hole creating a challenging experience for each of the 112 players who teed it up in the 2UNDR Mississippi Open.
In Division 1, Derek Nicholson (Birmingham) got off to a hot start, firing a 2-under 70 to take a 2-shot lead over Ryan Eckelcamp (St. Louis) who shot even to give chase. Tyler Sipes (Indianapolis) was in striking distance after a first round 3-over par 75. Sunday would belong to Sipes, who shot an impressive final round 73 as the leaders stumbled in tough wind conditions on the more difficult Azaleas course. At 4-over par, Tyler Sipes is the 2UNDR Mississippi Open D1 champion, earning a 2-shot victory over Ryan Eckelcamp. Derek Nicholson finished in 3rd place at +7.
In Division 2, Jeremy Key (Augusta) had himself a day on Saturday. Jeremy rode a hot putter to 5 birdies on the front 9 en route to a first round 68 and a career best round by several shots. Karl Jung (Birmingham) sat 7 shots back after a 75, while Brian Vance (Iowa Tri-State) shot a 78 to be in 3rd place heading into Sunday’s final round. Conditions were much more difficult on Sunday, but Jeremy Key was up to the task, needing several key up and downs to maintain his lead. His second round 77 would match Karl Jung (+8) and Matthew Bankston (+15) (FL Gulf Coast) who would finish 1-2-3 and be enough to secure his first career major victory. Rounding out the top 5 was Alec Anderson (Memphis) at +16 and Brian Vance at +18.
In Division 3, Paul Harris (East Tennessee) and Rick Johnson (St. Louis) got off to a hot start, firing rounds of 82 to end up tied for the lead. Division 4 GlobalGolf.com National Player of the Year Robert Love (Dallas/Fort Worth) was trailing closely behind with an 84 heading into Sunday’s final round. Scores were high in the final round, as the winds picked up on a tricky layout. Paul Harris shot an 89 to secure a 2-shot victory over Bryan Packer (Kentucky). Rick Johnson finished in solo 3rd at +30, while Joseph Lacy (Birmingham) and Sean Whitfield (Chicago) tied for 4th at +32. Robert Love (Dallas/Fort Worth) finished in 6th place at +33.
In Division 4, Nashville’s Jason Jordan got off to a hot start with an 84 to take a one-shot lead over Daniel Henris (Carolina East) heading into Sunday’s final round. The low round on Sunday would belong to Birmingham’s Tom Leonard, who fired an 86 on Sunday to jump from 5th to 1st at +32 and earn his first major victory. Roger Morito (Ontario) shot a second round 88 to finish in solo 2nd place just one shot back at +33. Bob Koch (Iowa) finished in solo 3rd at +34 with rounds of 90-88. Daniel Henris (Carolina East) and Darrell Ervin (Memphis) finished tied for 4th at +35.
In Division 5, Iowa’s Robert Rosenbaum jumped out to an early lead with an 89 heading into Sunday. Danny Sullivan (Upstate South Carolina) and David McDow (Nashville) trailed by 8 shots with rounds of 97. Sunday would belong to Danny Sullivan, as Rosenbaum struggled a little bit on a difficult day and Sullivan would close the gap to force extra holes as both players tied at +48. Danny Sullivan delivered a par on the first playoff hole to secure the victory. David McDow finished in solo 3rd place at +51, while Mitchell McDanald (Atlanta) finished in 4th place at +56. Arthur Miller Jr. (Memphis) rounded out the top-5 at +57.
In the Open Net contest, Tyler Sipes finished at +2 to earn a 4-shot victory over Jason Jordan. Robert Love finished in solo 3rd at +7, while Derek Nicholson (Birmingham), Maro Tallerico (St. Louis), Matthew Bankston (Florida Gulf Coast) each finished in a tie for 4th at +9.
Jody Barrett (Nashville) won the Senior Net contest at +2, besting Paul Harris (East Tennessee) by 1 shot at +3. Donald Bradham (Houston) and Roger Morito (Ontario) finished in a tie for 3rd at +5. Bryan Packer (Kentucky) finished in 5th place at +7, Rick Johnson (St. Louis) finished 6th at +8, while Tom Leonard (Birmingham) and Brian Vance (Iowa) finished in a tie for 7th at +10. The Top-10 was rounded out by Daniel Henris (Carolina East), Darrell Ervin (Memphis) and Terence Harris (Nashville) who finished in a tie for 9th at +11.
The 2UNDR Mississippi Open debuted the Worldwide Golf Par 3/Par 5 Contests, which are optional contests in each division solely on the Par 3’s and the Par 5’s. All the money paid in is paid back out in Worldwide Golf Gift Cards, which can be used at any of Worldwide Golf’s 17 retail brands as well as their industry-leading e-commerce stores. $2,400 was paid out in additional prizes based on players performances on the par 3’s and the par 5’s.
