Tournament Champions
The Augusta Chapter held its second event of the 2024 season at the historic Golf Club of Aiken, a historic and classic layout that first was opened in 1912. The Aiken Golf Club features a risk-reward heavy layout with reachable par 5s, drivable par 4’s with danger lurking for misstruck shots. 76 players competed on a near-perfect day, with highs climbing close to 90 degrees on a gorgeous sunny day.
In Division 1, 18 holes wouldn’t be enough to determine a winner as local Jamozzy Skenandore and David Winesette would tie with solid rounds of 1-over par 71. On the second playoff hole, Jamozzy Skenandore emerged victorious on the par-5 second hole to claim the victory. Matthew Chiera finished in 3rd place with a round of 73.
In Division 2, the day belonged to Tim Dupree who shot a career-best even-par 70 that featured 3 birdies en route to victory. 2nd place was shared by Craig Thigpen, Bob Grove, and Sean Soltysiak, who each shot 78 to round out the money.
In Division 3, the field was extremely competitive as 6 players were within 3 shots of the lead. Travis Blackwell emerged victorious with a round of 79 after a solid back-nine that featured 7 pars and 2 bogeys to earn a one-shot victory over Joshua Partridge, who finished in solo 2nd with a round of 80. Darrell Johnson and Ben Shelburn finished in a tie for 3rd, just 2 strokes off the pace with rounds of 81 to round out the money.
In Division 4, Jeff Asmann earned his first victory on the Amateur Players Tour, shooting an impressive 82 in a round that included back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes. That was enough to secure a one shot victory over Evan Uram, who’s 73 was good enough for a solo 2nd place finish. Gabe Gamadanis rounded out the money with an 85 to finish in solo 3rd place.
In Division 5, Ronnie Partridge had a day, shooting a career-best 82 to earn the victory. Ronnie’s round was steady all day, including a birdie on the downhill par-3 16th hole to earn a 9-shot win over Eddie Jordan, who finished in solo 2nd with a 91. Austin Hubert rounded out the money, finishing in 3rd place with a round of 93.
Travis Blackwell and Andy Maestas tied for the top spot in the Senior Net competition, both finishing at 1-over par 71 for the day. 3rd place went to Bob Grove with a net score of 72, while 4th place went to Darrell Johnson with a net 74 to round out the money on the par-70 layout. John Benton, Gary Martin, and Steven Reeves had solid rounds of net 76 to finish T-5th in the Senior Net competition.
