After dodging the rain for 3 straight days, we got to play our next tournament at Eagle Ridge in Fort Myers!  The course had received over 5 inches of rain the previous 4 days, and their course was saturated, but Mother Nature gave us one and allowed us to play in wet conditions on July 21.  We had 24 guys tee it up for the competition, and the day produced 2 playoffs out of our 5 winners!  The front nine proved to be very tough for almost everyone, with a number of solid back nine scores!  Highlights of the day included:

    • Division 1:  After the front nine all 4 players were within 2 strokes of each other!  Our leader at the turn, George Dundon, bogeyed the par 5 11th hole putting Michael Smith and Henry Abbott in a tie with him!  However, on the par 5 13th hole, Dundon parred and Smith and Abbott each faltered and Dundon finished it out from there with a 2-stroke victory over D1 points leader, Henry Abbott.
    • Division 2: Chason Rockymore and Nick Westbrook both turn in solid 3 over 39 on the front side and lead Daren Green by 3.  On the back, Green birdied the par 5 11th to pull within 2 of Westbrook.  Green then finished off the win with back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15, and parred out from there!  A GREAT contest all day!
    • Division 3: This had not one, but two guys go LOW!  Chris Menna had the low score of the day on the front nine with a sizzling 1-under 35 and a 7-stroke lead over his three playing partners!  Waymon Fuselier took a bite out of Menna’s lead on the par 5 11th when he birdied it and Menna bogeyed!  Fuselier was off to the races on the back with an even-par 36, and Menna could just manage a 43, so they were tied at 6 over 78!  On the first playoff hole, both drove the ball well and both missed slightly right and long.  Menna putted his attempt to about 5 feet and Fuselier chipped his to about 2 feet.  Menna would miss and Fuselier made his par putt for the win!
    • Division 4: Division 4 turned out to be a two horse race from the get-go!  Andy Halek lead with a 6 over 42, but Gregg Carr was right on his tail just 1-shot back after the front nine.  Carr tied Halek on the Par 4 12th, but Halek quickly got the lead back on 13.  Carr chipped away at that 3 shot deficit until he tied Halek on 17, and they both doubled the last to tie!  In the playoff, Halek was on in 2, but Carr would chip it close and sink the putt, but Halek answered with a good 2-putt from 28 feet.  The second playoff hole saw Carr lose his tee shot right and out-of-bounds.  Halek answered with a drive right down the middle.  Halek knocked his next shot on and beat Carr.
    • Division 5: Greg Gastfield came out firing with a 7-over 43 on the front and a 12-stroke lead on the field!  However, on the back-nine, Ken Winters would use birdies on BOTH par 3s on the back to card a 2-over 38 on the back!  Despite his valiant effort to catch Gastfield, Winters fell 2 strokes short of the epic comeback, and Gastfield held on for the win!
    • Senior Net: 9 out of the 15 eligible players participated in the Senior Net game, with Daren Green, our D2 winner, and Greg Gastfield, our D5 winner tying for the win at 1 over!

A huge thank you goes out to Drew Weeks and the entire staff at Eagle Ridge for even having the course playable after so much rain!  Everyone was friendly and very helpful!

Our next event is at Heron Creek in North Port, and it will be on Saturday, August 10.  Remember, the more players we get, the bigger the payouts!  Sign up now for your spot to play!  Registration closes on August 4!
