Tournament Champions
The Amateur Players Tour-Birmingham Chapter hosted a field of 64 players at Gunters Landing Golf Club, located in Guntersville, AL. Players battled in out for over $5000 in prizes across five divisions, skins games, and net contests.
In Division 1, Derek Nicholson continued his summer of consist play and racked up his third victory in a row. Derek posted a score of -1 (71) to take the victory by four shots. Derek was awarded the trophy and a $400 Visa Gift Card for the victory. Second place was a three way tie with Ernie Blakenship, Lamar Adams, and Brandon Moye each earning $67 a piece. Derek was also able to claim the top spot in the Open Net Contest to add another $170 to his winnings for the day.
Division 2 was a tight battle between Karl Jung and Johnny Pierce all round long. At the turn only one shot separated the two and then Karl turned the heat up with three birdies in a row from 10 through 12 to take a two-shot lead. Karl was able to par the final four holes to hold on to the one-shot victory over Johnny. Karl was awarded the trophy and $450 in winnings. Johnny’s winnings on the day included $250 for second place and $230 for his 1st place finish in Sr Net. Congrats on a great day for both Karl and Johnny.
Division 3 was a tell of two nines for the eventful winner, Ande Jones. Ande posted a front nine score of 42, however after a near ace on the 10th hole the round turned for Ms. Ande. Keeping the momentum up, she posted 37 on the back nine to secure the two-shot victory. Ande was awarded the trophy and the $450 Visa Gift Card for her victory. Bryan Kiplimo took second and was awarded $200.
Division 4 has some scoreboard watching going on from the clubhouse. Brain Sanders and Philip Laye posted a scores of +16 (88) and had their eyes on one player. Paul Harris had a comfortable lead of four shots on the 17th tee. After a double bogey on the 17th, Paul needed to make bogey or better to take the victory. Paul made bogey on the final hole and was able to secure the one-shot victory. Paul was awarded the trophy and $400 in winnings. Brian and Philip split second place for $100 each.
Division 5 was close through the front nine and then Tim Harbin settled in and keep the big numbers of the card to cruise to a three-shot victory with a score of +18 (90). David Mcdow, visiting from Nashville’s Chater, took second place with a score of +21 (93). Tim was awarded the trophy and $375 in winnings. David was awarded $175 for his second-place finish. Congrats to both and the great day.
