Tournament Champions
The St. Louis chapter closed its 2023 calendar year on a blustery, cold and wet day at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course on Sunday, October 29th. Conditions were tough, but 68 players braved the cold and wet to compete at the Arnold Palmer design.
In Division 1, Chris Pestka earned his first career victory on the APT, shooting a 79 in tough conditions to earn a 2-shot win over Dylan Davidson, who finished in solo 2nd with an 81 and has been knocking on the door for a few months now. On the senior side, Kent Van Cleve earned his first Division 1 win, shooting an 82 to edge Joe Finn, who finished close behind with an 84 on a very difficult day.
In Division 2, Billy Davis returned to the winners circle with a round of 78, edging Greg Miller by one shot. Miller finished with a 79 and his best finish since being promoted to Division 2 following the 2023 season. 3rd place would go to Michael Konuch, who’s play has continued to improve with an 80. On the senior side, Billy Davis would get a 2-shot victory over Michael Konuch.
In Division 3, Christian Benavides earned the victory with a solid 12-over par round of 84 in one of the most competitive divisions of the day with 11 players within 4 strokes of the lead. 2nd would go to Tim Leonberger with an 85, while Matt Baker and Scott Kleine would finish tied for 3rd with rounds of 86. On the senior side, Tim Leonberger would earn the victory, edging Scott Kleine by one stroke. Mark Ralph and Simay Souvannarath would finish tied for 3rd with rounds of 87.
In Division 4, Mike Scalera played an incredibly solid round, shooting an 85 to earn a 2-shot victory over Paul Spotanski and Rei Nakamura, who finished tied for 2nd place shooting 87’s. Peter Robinson finished in solo 4th with a round of 88. On the senior side, Mike Scalera earned a 2-shot victory over Paul Spotanski and Sudhakar Injamuri, who finished 2 shots back.
In Division 5, Bill McMahan started the 2024 campaign off with a victory, shooting a 93 to win by one stroke over David Alexander, who shot 94. On the senior side, Roger Eberlein shot a 99 to earn a one-shot victory over Chris Brockmeyer, who finished in 2nd place on a very difficult day with a round of 100.
There are 2 more APT events for St. Louis chapter members this calendar year in warmer clients. Next weekend, St. Louis members will travel to compete in the 2UNDR Mississippi Open at Dancing Rabbit and then once again at the Myrtle Beach Holiday Classic December 2nd-3rd at True Blue and Caledonia.
