The New Jersey Amateur Players Tour made a trip west to Malvern, PA where we held our second to last event at the White Manor Country Club. This is where you will find one of the country’s most beautiful and challenging golf courses. Redesigned and completely renovated in 2003, highly rated course architects from Bobby Weed Design of Pointe Vedra Beach, FL created a jewel. The 18-hole course re-opened to rave reviews and accolades in August 2003, winning an award as U.S. Course Renovation of the Year (Golf, Inc.). Golf Digest named White Manor’s golf course as one Pennsylvania’s Top 25 Golf Courses in 2015. Our course was also recognized as the #3 “Modern Design” golf course and the #14 overall in the state, by Golf Week Magazine in 2013. With a field of 52 players, the weather was perfect and the stage was set for an amazing day.
In Division 1; In a fiercely contested match, a small but formidable field of three talented players—Preston Kyriakoulis, George Steinmetz, and William Essigs—battled it out to the wire, with only four strokes separating the champion from the third-place finisher. At the turn, Essigs held a narrow one-stroke lead, posting a +3 (38), closely followed by Steinmetz at +4 (39), and Kyriakoulis trailing by just two strokes at +4 (40). The back nine, however, saw a dramatic shift in fortunes. Essigs faltered, managing only two pars and carding a +7 (43) for a final score of 81, dropping him out of contention. This left Kyriakoulis and Steinmetz to vie for the title. The pivotal moment came on the 11th hole, where Steinmetz’s double bogey, coupled with Kyriakoulis’s birdie, created a decisive three-stroke swing in Kyriakoulis’s favor. Kyriakoulis then went on a steady run, parring four consecutive holes and securing a crucial birdie on the 17th. Despite a valiant birdie effort by Steinmetz on the 18th, it wasn’t enough. Steinmetz finished the back nine with a +3 (37) for a total score of 78, while Kyriakoulis’s impressive +1 (36) on the back nine brought him to a final score of 77, earning him the well-deserved title of Division 1 champion.
In Division 2, With a field of 12 skilled competitors, this contest was wide open, and anyone could emerge victorious. Gil Moniz wasted no time asserting himself, starting strong with a birdie on the 1st hole, followed by four pars and another birdie on the 6th. He led the pack at even par (35) as they made the turn. However, Eddie Gilbert was close behind, recording six pars and a birdie to finish just one stroke back at +1 (36). Several other players were also within striking distance, including David Ayars, Michael Potter, Kevin Cockerham, and Mark Monkhouse, all of whom were tied at +4 (39). But the back nine would prove decisive, separating the field and testing Moniz’s resolve to maintain his impressive start. Rocky Dare made a notable push, carding a +1 (37) on the back nine to finish tied with Christopher Mains at +8 (79). Chad Hertzog also delivered a strong finish, sinking three birdies to post a +1 (37) on the back nine and secure a final score of 80, earning him 4th place. Despite the pressure from his challengers, the day belonged to Moniz, who held steady to finish with a +2 (73) overall, capturing the Division 2 title with a composed and consistent performance.
In Division 3 With a strong field of 21 players, the stakes were high as today’s points could be crucial in the race for Player of the Year, with only one more tournament remaining. Steve Winnick wasted no time making his intentions clear, blazing through the front nine with a +2 (37) to take the lead at the turn. Close behind were Richard Stack and Sal Tomczak, each just one stroke back at +3 (38). The question loomed: could Winnick hold on to his slim lead, or would Stack, Tomczak, or another contender from the field rise to claim victory? The back nine, however, proved to be a tough challenge for Winnick. He stumbled, carding a +9 (45) to finish with a final score of +11 (82), which opened the door for others to make a move. Cassidy Salvador and Timothy Dublynn both mounted strong comebacks. Salvador posted a +5 (41) on the back nine, while Dublynn turned in a +3 (39). Both players finished with a final score of +11 (82), resulting in a three-way tie for second place. In the end, it was Stack who emerged as the Division 3 champion. He navigated the back nine with a steady +5 (41) to secure a final score of +8 (79), clinching the title and positioning himself strongly for the season’s finale.
In Division 4, With a modest field of 12 players, each competitor was eager to earn valuable points and vie for the Division 4 title. As they made the turn, the leaderboard was spread out, with Andrew Repetto leading at +6 (41), followed by Carmine Ciccarelli at +8 (43), Edward Kelly at +11 (46), and J.P. Perron at +12 (47). Repetto kept his composure on the back nine, delivering a steady +9 (45) to secure a final score of +15 (86), earning him the Division 4 championship. Ciccarelli and Kelly both finished with a score of +20 (91), tying for second place, while Perron was close behind in fourth with a +22 (93).
In Division 5, With just four players competing in Division 5, it was Paul Taylor who delivered one of his best performances of the year. He posted an impressive back nine score of +5 (41) and a final score of +17 (88), leaving the rest of the field far behind.
In Open Net Frank Molfetta took first place with a Net -1 (70) and close behind in second place is Christopher Mains Net Even (71), tied for third are Timothy Dublynn, and Cassidy Salvador Net +1 (72).
In Senior Net, Paul Taylor and Gil Moniz tied for first with a score of NET -4 (67), Taylor had the better back nine and took home the trophy, Richard Stack was close with a Net –1 (70) for third, and Steve Winnick, and Rick Knepp tied for 4th with Net +1 (72).
The New Jersey Amateur Players Tour 2024 Season is coming to a close with our final tournament being held at Neshanic Valley Golf Course where we will crown our 2024 division champions and our Senior Net Champion. All who will receive some great prizes, trophies and a 2025 membership. This tournament is open to all players(Members and Non-Members) and is just like a regular season event with one exception. If you are in the hunt for the division race, this is one you don’t want to miss, If you are looking for another win on the tour, this is another opportunity to do so. Come out and experience the last event of the 2024 season, make new friends and see old ones.
