A mix of Lowcountry charm and highland terrain made for a perfect setting on Sunday as the Charleston Amateur Players Tour hosted its tournament at Santee National Golf Club. Nearly $6,000 worth of side game cash and VISA gift card prizes were on the line during the day of competition.

The Charleston Amateur Players Tour is designed by the players, for the players, and travels the Lowcountry of South Carolina. With tournaments at the best courses in the area, the Charleston Amateur Players Tour gives players of all skill levels a chance to compete in one of ten different divisions.

Sunday, golfers took on Santee National, which was rated four stars by Golf Digest. The course features rolling hills and mossy oaks throughout the property, making for a perfect backdrop for a round of golf. The course is owned and operated by the Clark family.

Here’s a breakdown of Sunday’s results from each division:

Division 1 – Elliott Johnson used four birdies on the front nine to climb the leaderboard en route to winning Division 1 on Sunday with a two under par round of 70. Johnson shot 33 on the front nine after a bogey on the opening hole.

Nicholas Politis shot 74 to finish second. His round featured back nine birdies on the 11th and 13th holes to shoot 37 on the back nine. David Winesette also tied for second with a round of 74. Winesette got off to a hot start with three birdies on the front nine to shoot one under.

Justin Applebaum and Michael Huh tied for fourth place with rounds of 75. Applebaum shot 37 on the front nine, including a birdie on the par-four 8th hole. Huh made two birdies on the front nine to shoot two under par to finish inside the top-five.

Senior Division 1 – While David Winesette came up just short in the battle for the top spot in Division 1, his round of 74 was good enough to win Senior Division 1 on Sunday. Winesette shot 39 on the back nine after carding a round of one under par on the outward nine.

Darryl Phelps finished runner-up after carding a round of 78. Phelps took advantage of both par fives on the front nine, making birdies to shoot 38 on the front. Thomas Ownes rounded out the division with a round of 79 in third place. Owens made two birdies on the front nine as well.

Division 2 – Brett Coddington emerged from a crowded field of 17 golfers to win Division 2 on Sunday by virtue of his two under par round of 70. Coddington made three birdies on the front nine to shoot 35, as he matched the score on the back nine to win by three strokes.

John Tompkins shot 73 to finish runner-up. Tompkins’ steady day included 15 pars, two bogeys and a birdie. Tompkins birdied the par-five 10th hole before parring his next seven holes.

Tim DuPree shot 75 to finish third. DuPree made four birdies on the day, two on each side. Two birdies and a bogey on the front nine helped him battle his way into the top-three halfway through the round.

Chuck Bell, Kevin Futrell, and Darrell Johnson tied for fourth place with rounds of 76.

Senior Division 2 – Brett Coddington doubled up on Sunday as he also won Senior Division 2 with his round of 70. Coddington found his groove after consecutive bogeys on the front nine. Coddington played his final five holes on the front nine in two under par en route to victory.

Big Al Reynolds shot 83, finishing one shot back in second place. Reynolds made six pars on the back nine as he made a charge towards the top of the leaderboard. Division 5 – Eighteen holes proved to not be enough to determine a winner in Division 5 on Sunday. Steven Reeves prevailed in a playoff over Zachary Chavis. Reeves made four pars on the front nine to grab position atop the leaderboard en route to a round of 90.

Chavis, who also shot 90, pared three of his final six holes of the round to reach the playoff. Greg Dover finished third with a round of 92, followed by Travis Shively in fourth with a round of fourth.
