East Tennessee Chapter held our 2nd Fall event at Springbrook golf and Country club in Niota, TN., on 19 November 2023. Though the morning started cold, it turned into a beautiful sunny day. The course was firm and fast as it hadn’t rained in weeks, and the undulating greens were extremely fast and challenging.
Division 1 Had a back and forth battle all day as Nashville’s Ramsey Kimbrough and Nathan Frazier shot front nine 37’s. Ramsey took an early lead on the back nine and held on to win by one with a score of 76.
In Division 2 we had Drew Russell start strong and take a 3 shot lead on the front nine. As the course became more difficult, he held his own and went on to collect his first win in his 4th start with the APT.
Division 3 East Charles Smith played the front nine to a 2 shot lead but things got really tight as Daniel England and Greg Mason mounted a comeback. Things were neck and neck with all three until Greg stumbled with a couple of late double bogeys. With Smith leading by one, England birdied the last hole to force a playoff. Daniel England took the win after the first playoff hole.
Division 4 had last years’ Division 4 player of the year show up again as a winner. After shooting a front nine 42 to tie for the lead, he kept his composure and took the lead and the win (88). Runner ups were Chip Kirkland and Kip Moore of Atlanta tying for 2nd place with scores of 91.
Division 5 had Emmett Warner tearing through the front nine (+1 thru 7 holes) and then run away from the field to win Division 5 (and Senior Net). Runner up Tony Williams finished the tough greens with a 95 for 2nd place.
SR NET was won by Emmett Warner (Div 5 winner) with a net 2 under (70) (should be a special prize from Jack Curry) and at one time was net 7 under on a card that included a net “1” on a par 4 and a “2” for an eagle. Well played Emmett!!! Runner up was a closer match with Paul Harris taking 2nd place with a net 77 over Greg Mason net 78.
