2024 Verandah Golf Club Tournament Results

The third event of the Southwest Florida Amateur Players Tour 2024 season was held at the Verandah Golf Club in North Fort Myers, Florida, on May 14.  28 players teed it up on a Tuesday afternoon at one of the private courses on our schedule.  The course was excellent, and everyone enjoyed the top-notch playing conditions.  Highlights include: 

• Division 1:  Henry Abbott turned in a solid front nine with a 3-over 39, with Michael Smith just a couple of shots back.  Smith beat Abbott by one on the back, but it was not enough as Henry Abbott earned his first win!    
• Division 2: Chason Rockymore jumped out to the lead at the turn carding an even par 36, with Mike Lingenfelter and John VanDerLaan right behind him.  Rockymore came back to the field a bit on the back nine, but his front nine start earned him his first win of the season with a 4-over 76!  Lingenfelter finished second at 79, and Nick Westbrook turned in a very solid 1-over back nine to finish 3^rd.   
• Division 3: In Division 3, Jeff Rainford shot a solid 3-over 39 on the front with Stephane Soucy and Peter Galiette right behind him.  Soucy played solid golf down the stretch, including a birdie at the short par 3 17^th to take the lead from Rainford and earn his first win with an 83.  Phil Bondi turned in a 3-over par back nine to leapfrog Rainford and take second.   
• Division 4:   John Oursler took the lead at the turn with a 7-over 43, with Andy Halek and Herons Glen champ, Stephen Leadbetter right behind!  Oursler hit a rough patch early on the back and Leadbetter turned in a sizzling 3-over 39 on the back to get his second win of the season.   
• Division 5: Greg Gastfield took an early 3-shot lead at the turn over Rusty Lingenfelter.  Both players struggled in the middle of the back nine, but ultimately Gastfield got the 1-stroke victory for his first win of the season!  Both players turned it around in the end to make the finish exciting!   
• Senior Net: 13 of the 20 eligible players participated in the Senior Net contest.  Stephane Soucy, our Division 3 winner turned in a scorching -4 net to win!  Taking second with a +1 was Phil Bondi (2^nd in D3), followed very closely by Mike Lingenfelter at +3.     

A huge thank you goes out to Adam Miller and the entire staff at Verandah Golf Club for their help and hospitality.  We will be coming back here again for sure! 

Our next event is our FIRST Major of the season, and it will be on Saturday, June 8 at The National Golf Course at Ave Maria.  You will earn more points, as well as bigger prize pools for every Division.  Remember, the more players we get, the bigger the payouts!  Sign up now for your spot to play in this elevated event!  Registration closes on June 1!
