Tournament Champions
The Amateur Players Tour finished it’s January Florida Swing at the world-famous Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida. Being a previous host of the LPGA Tour Championship, Reunion Resort is unique in offering an Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tom Watson Signature course on the same property. 120 players teed it up in a sold-out field at one of the nicest golf resorts in Florida and players faced fast greens and golf course in great shape for the January event.
In Division 1, Tyler Sipes (Indianapolis) utilized a final round 2-under par 70 at the Palmer Course on Sunday to take the lead and earn a 5-shot victory over Michael Clark (St. Louis). Clark played two solid rounds to finish in solo 2nd at 7-over par, including being tied for the lead after round 1 at 4-over with Sipes. 3rd place honors would go to Nicholas Heller (Central Illinois), who started his 2025 season in good form at +11 while John Todd (St. Louis) finished in solo 4th at +12.
In Division 2, Daren Green (Southwest Florida) broke through for his first National Major title, holding off Worldwide Golf Champion Travis Wartluft (Charlotte) during Round 2. The two went back and forth all day, until Green pulled away late to earn his first major victory at +13. Wartluft finished in solo 2nd at +16. Jeff Carnacchi (Cincinnati/Dayton) finished in solo 3rd at +21, while Mike Lingenfelter (St. Louis) and Rocky Dare (New Jersey/Philadelphia) tied for 4th place at +22. Michael Foster (Tulsa) finished in 6th place at +24.
In Division 3, Dave Baxmeyer (St. Louis) looked to rebound from a near miss at the Worldwide Golf Disney Season Kickoff earlier in the week. After a 10-over 82 to take an early lead at the difficult Nicklaus course, Baxmeyer would hold on to earn the title on Sunday, with a 2-shot cushion at +24. Allen Strausbaugh (Kansas City) and Bill Debobes (Metro New York) finished tied for 2nd at +26, while Elvis Sheahan (Carolina East) and Stu Kambury (Dallas/Fort Worth) rounded out the top-5 in a tie for fourth at +30. Larry Barber (New Jersey/Philadelphia), Rob Love (Dallas/Fort Worth), and Rick Johnson (St. Louis) finished in a tie for 6th at +31.
In Division 4, Steve Thomas (Atlanta) picked up right where he left off at the 2UNDR Myrtle Beach Holiday Classic, running away from the field during Sunday’s final round shooting an impressive 9-over par 81 to earn a 4-shot victory. Thomas has steadily improved over the last several months, and his exceptional performance has earned him a promotion to Division 3. Congratulations Steve! JD Lee (Myrtle Beach) had a strong showing, earning solo 2nd place honors at +33. Carl Elliston (Metro New York) finished in solo 3rd at +34, while Brian Gregor (Charleston) finished in solo 4th at +35. Rounding out the top 5 was John Sans (Metro New York) and Dan Andrews (Metro New York) at +37.
In Division 5, Travis Shively (Myrtle Beach) kept up his torrid pace to start the 2025 season, going back-to-back on the Florida Swing with a 6-shot win at +48. Jim Pritchett (Virginia Capital) and Joe Scheib (Southwest Florida) finished in a tie for 2nd at +54. Steve Koch (Iowa) and Alan Beuadoin (Metro New York) rounded out the top-5 in a tied for 4th at +55.
Tyler Sipes won the Open Net Division at -1, after an impressive 3-under net round on Sunday at the Palmer course. Jason Holden (Central Illinois), Rob Love (Dallas/Fort Worth), and Keno Chambers (Metro New York) finished in a tie for 2nd at +5.
The Senior Net title went to JD Lee (Myrtle Beach), who returned from an injury to finish at -1 and earn a 2-shot victory over Bill Debobes (Myrtle Beach), who finished with a 2-day total of +1. Daren Green (Southwest Florida), Dave Baxmeyer (St. Louis) and Steve Thomas (Atlanta) finished in a tie for 3rd at +3. Allen Strausbaugh (Kansas City) finished in 6th place with a 2-day total of +4. Michael Clark (St. Louis) finished in solo 7th place with a 2-day total of +5, while Travis Wartluft (Charlotte) and Andy Halek (Southwest Florida) tied for 8th at +8. Rounding out the top-10 was Elvis Sheahan (Carolina East) and Dan Andrews (Metro New York) at +7.
