2025 Central Illinois Local Finals Recap
Prairie Vista Golf Course | Bloomington, IL | September 6, 2025
The 2025 Central Illinois Local Finals at Prairie Vista Golf Course had it all: playoffs, first-time champions, emotional storylines, and the crowning of our 2025 Players of the Year. Under crisp late-summer skies, a sold-out field battled for trophies, Player of the Year points, and momentum heading into the Crossroads Cup. The Local Finals also marked the official crowning of our 2025 Players of the Year — though the divisional announcements will be made once all winners’ photos are secured.
Division 1 – Prosser vs. Dazey: Frenemies
In a dramatic finish, Scott Prosser (Normal, IL) and Wesley Dazey (Bloomington, IL) — both friends and rivals — delivered fireworks.
Down one stroke on the 18th, Prosser drove the green and drained a 30-foot eagle putt. Dazey answered with a clutch five-foot birdie to force a playoff. In sudden death, Dazey’s drive settled against a boundary fence, leading to bogey. Prosser’s steady par secured the Division 1 title.
• 1st: Scott Prosser (+4 | 76, won playoff)
• 2nd: Wesley Dazey (+4 | 76)
• 3rd: Josh Anderson (+9 | 81)
Division 2 – Anglin’s Tribute Victory
Jason Anglin (Normal, IL) capped an unforgettable week, winning Division 2 just days after retiring from the Normal Fire Department following 22 years of service. Anglin, best friends with runner-up Dan Punkay (Champaign, IL), posted a gritty 75 (+3) to edge his longtime playing partner by one stroke. It was a fitting salute to both his career in service and his competitive drive on the APT.
• 1st: Jason Anglin (+3 | 75)
• 2nd: Dan Punkay (+4 | 76)
• 3rd: Nathan Turner (+6 | 78)
Division 3 – Gentry Edges Zerillo in Playoff
Division 3 delivered another playoff classic. James Gentry (Rochester, IL) posted an 83 (+11) as the clubhouse leader. Anthony Zerillo (Florissant, MO) matched him from the final group, forcing extra holes. Both men drove the par-4 18th in the playoff. Gentry lagged his eagle putt to a tap-in birdie, while Zerillo’s mud ball approach left a six-footer he couldn’t convert. Gentry’s composure earned him the Division 3 crown.
• 1st: James Gentry (+11 | 83, won playoff)
• 2nd: Anthony Zerillo (+11 | 83)
• T-3: Matt Bohlmann (+12 | 84)
• T-3: Phillip Hermes (+12 | 84)
Division 4 – Davis Breaks Through
Cleat Davis (Taylorville, IL) fired a sizzling 35 (–1) on the front nine and held on to post 76 (+4), earning his first Local Finals title. He stayed ahead of newly promoted Chris Schmulbach and Darrell Park, who shared runner-up honors.
• 1st: Cleat Davis (+4 | 76)
• T-2: Chris Schmullbach (+12 | 84)
• T-2: Darrell Park (+12 | 84)
Division 5 – Schumacher’s First APT Victory
After a year of persistence, Keith Schumacher (Mason City, IL) finally broke through, winning his first divisional title on the Amateur Players Tour. His 93 (+21) was enough to top Kyle Jones and Myron Schroeder, who tied for second.
• 1st: Keith Schumacher (+21 | 93)
• T-2: Kyle Jones (+29 | 101)
• T-2: Myron Schroeder (+29 | 101)
Senior Net – Schumacher’s Double Crown
Schumacher wasn’t done. He also captured the Senior Net title with a superb net 70 (–2), completing the coveted double victory at Prairie Vista.
• 1st: Keith Schumacher (–2 Net | 70)
• 2nd: Dan Punkay (+1 Net | 73)
Closest to the Pin
Zach Moore claimed Closest to the Pin honors with a dart to 5 ft, 1 in, taking home the prize in style.
Looking Ahead
With the Local Finals complete, Central Illinois turns to the Crossroads Cup this October 11 & 12 at Turtle Run. The top three in each division — plus a captain’s pick — will represent CIL in the season’s ultimate team battle against the Indianapolis APT. The full 20 man team will be announced soon.
The tour will be back in action October 25th for the 2026 Fall Kickoff at host Lincoln Elks Golf Club. Sign up is underway.
Between Prosser’s eagle heroics, Anglin’s tribute win, Gentry’s playoff composure, Davis’ breakthrough, and Schumacher’s double crown, the 2025 Local Finals was a championship day to remember and the perfect cap to an outstanding season.
