METAMORA, IL — JULY 13, 2025 — With suffocating heat, unforgiving rough, and slick greens, Metamora Fields Golf Club delivered one of the toughest tests of the season on the Amateur Players Tour. Players across all divisions were pushed to their limits in a day packed with penalties, playoff pressure, and dramatic final holes.

Division 1 – Prosser’s Triple Nearly Costs Him, But He Closes Strong

Scott Prosser (Normal, IL) appeared to be cruising toward victory until disaster struck on the par-4 17th. After mistakenly playing the wrong ball, Prosser was assessed a two-stroke penalty that turned a bogey into a triple bogey, dropping him into a tie for the lead heading to the final hole. With the pressure on, he delivered a clutch par on 18, while Skyler Musgrove (Petersburg, IL) faltered with a bogey — giving Prosser a hard-earned one-shot win at 76 (+5). John Courtney (Springfield, IL) closed out the division at 82 (+11).

Division 2 – Danielson’s Collapse on 18 Hands Guest Player the Title

Phil Jordan (Peoria, IL), a guest in the field, played steady all day en route to a winning score of 72 (+1). But the story was heartbreak for Lane Danielson (Bloomington, IL), who stood on the 18th tee with a two-shot lead. What followed was a nightmare — a triple bogey on the finishing hole that dropped him to +2 (73) and out of the lead. He finished in a tie for second with John Mauck (Lombard, IL) and RJ Trimpe (Canton, IL). Isaiah Davis (Morton, IL) and Ansel Burditt (Metamora, IL) finished T5 at +3 (74) in what was the most stacked division of the day.

Division 3 – Brown Wins in Deep Division with Steady 76

Jim Brown (Normal, IL) topped a deep Division 3 field with a composed 76 (+5) to earn the victory. Contrary to early reports, Brown was not the only player to break 80, as both Sean Whitfield (North Utica, IL) and Jason Holden (Glasford, IL) carded 79s (+8) to finish tied for second. Just one shot behind them were Z. Moore (Lincoln, IL) and J. Westfall (Bloomington, IL) at 80 (+9). On a course that exposed every mistake, Brown’s consistency proved championship-worthy.

Division 4 – McMahon Wins On-Course Playoff Thriller

Don McMahon (Decatur, IL) rose to the occasion when it mattered most, securing the Division 4 win with a par on the first playoff hole against Greg Hodges (Normal, IL) after both finished regulation tied at 86 (+15). The playoff capped off a competitive division where Dewey Wills (Bloomington, IL) claimed solo third with an 89 (+18), and Eric Outlaw (Bloomington, IL) followed at 91 (+20). Ed Pavese (Mattoon, IL) and Darrell Park (Springfield, IL) rounded out the top five at 93 (+22).

Division 5 – Morrow Manages Mayhem to Take the Title

Scott Morrow (DeKalb, IL) took top honors in Division 5 with a solid 85 (+14), mastering Metamora’s challenge better than the rest. Myron Schroeder (Downs, IL) took second at 92 (+21), while Keith Schumacher (Mason City, IL) and James Sellner (Peoria Heights, IL) finished third and fourth at 108 (+37) and 109 (+38), respectively.

Senior Net – Jordan Doubles Up with Dominant Performance

Already the Division 2 champion, Phil Jordan (Peoria, IL) added a second title to his day with a commanding net 66 (-5) to win the Senior Net division. Ansel Burditt (Metamora, IL) was just behind at 67 (-4), while Sean Whitfield (North Utica, IL) finished third at 69 (-2). Rounding out the leaderboard were Kevin Dupent (East Peoria, IL) at 73 (+2), and Kirk Stuaan (Peoria Heights, IL) and Myron Schroeder (Downs, IL) tied at 74 (+3).

Closest to the Pin – Boyd Bags the Cash

In the Closest to the Pin contest, Thomas Boyd came through with the shot of the day, sticking it close and taking home a $490 cash prize for his pinpoint iron play.

From gut-wrenching penalties to playoff heroics and final-hole heartbreak, Metamora Fields tested every part of every player’s game. Those who left with trophies earned them under the heat, under pressure, and under fire.
