Tournament Champions
Golfers on the Charleston Amateur Players Tour enjoyed the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry this past weekend, as the tour traveled to Paris Island for a tournament at the Legends Golf Course.
The par-72 championship layout offers golfers a one-of-a-kind experience while on the course. Settled along the coast, Legends Golf Course features winding salt marshes and deep-water creeks throughout the property.
The Charleston Amateur Players Tour travels the Lowcountry of South Carolina and portions of Georgia, offering golfers of all skill levels a chance to compete in ten different divisions. The tournaments also included cash and VISA gift card payouts, and an optional skins game as well.
The Charleston Amateur Players Tour has a full schedule of events already set for the 2025 season, including the next tournament at Oak Hills in Columbia on June 28. Registration is now open for the event.
Here’s a breakdown of the results from Sunday’s tournament at Legends Golf Couse by division:
Division 1 – TJ Hines steady start to his round paved the way for his victory as the Spartanburg, SC native carded a round of 75 to win Division 1 on Sunday. Hines birdied the par-five second hole as he played the front nine in just one over par. Hines made another birdie on the par-five 13th hole to secure his victory by two strokes.
Ryan Haytt finished second with a round of 77, followed by Randy Hodges in third place with a score of 82. Hyatt led the division in birdies, with three on the day. Two of his birdies came on the back nine in a three-hole stretch, birding both the par-five 13th hole and the par-four 15th. Hodges made 12 pars during his round, including five in a row to close the day.
Division 2 – Charleston, SC native Matthew Keane made himself right at home Sunday in Paris Island, SC, firing a round of 76 to win Division 2 by five shots. Keane shot 37 on the front nine, including a birdie on the par-five 2nd hole. His back nine included seven pars and just two bogeys.
Steve Smyth finished second with a round of 81. Smyth led the division with birdies, making three on the day, including two on the front nine as he shot 37 to tie Keane.
Mark Murphy finished third with a score of 85 as his round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-five 18th hole. Ryan Holloway rounded out the division in fourth place with a round of 91. Holloway took advantage of the fourth hole, making birdie as he shot 39 on the front nine.
Division 3 – Andre Banks played the front nine in just four over par, allowing him to open a large lead on the field en route to his victory with a round of 84 in Division 3. Banks birdied the par-four ninth hole to shoot 39 on the front nine, giving himself a slight cushion going to the more difficult back nine. Despite a few tough holes, Banks made birdie on the par-four 15th hole as he played his final four holes in just one over par.
Parker Futrell finished second with a round of 91, which included a birdie on the fourth hole. The Hanahan, SC native also made four straight pars on the back nine on Nos. 14-17.
Matthew Nemes rounded out the division with a round of 92. Nemes was within striking distance after the front nine, playing the opening stretch in 42.
Division 4 – Rally Reynolds emerged from a crowded field of challengers in Division 4 to win with a round of 83. Reynolds’ steady day included four pars in his first six holes on the front nine. He took advantage of the par-five 13th hole, making birdie as he shot 42 on the closing nine.
Casey Price and Rick Battaglia finished tied for second place with rounds of 86. Price tried to make a back nine charge, birding the 13th and 15th holes as he shot 44 on the closing stretch. Battaglia made four pars on the front nine, including three out of his final five holes on the opening stretch.
James Nemes and Cooter Douglas tied for fourth place with rounds of 89. Nemes made seven pars during the round to chart the top five finish as Douglas made his lone birdie of the day on the par-five 13th hole.
Senior Division 4 – Rally Reynolds made it a clean sweep of the weekend, earning the top spot as well in Senior Division 4 with his round of 83. Reynolds shot 41 on the front nine, before buckling down on the much more difficult back nine to card a round of 42. Reynolds’ back nine included a birdie on the 13th hole, and two pars in his final three holes.
Casey Price and Rick Battaglia tied for second place, just three shots behind as both players posted rounds of 86. Price made four pars on the front nine before making his bridies on the 13th and 15th holes. Battaglia shot 41 on the front nine, including four pars to settle into his round.
James Nemes and Cooter Douglas tied for fourth place, rounding out the top five in the division with rounds of 89.
Division 5 – Leroy Anderson ran away from the field in Division 5, firing a round of 84 to win by over a dozen strokes. Anderson played the front nine in just three over par, including a birdie on the par-three third hole. He also pared two of his final three holes to secure the victory.
Chris Irving finished second with a round of 97. Irving pared three of his first six holes on the back nine. Barry Crocker rounded out the division in third place with a round of 112. Crocker made two pars on the day, including one on the par-five 18th hole.
