The Columbus and Cincinnati/Dayton Chapters of the Amateur Players Tour hosted the Ohio State Stableford joint event at the beautiful Beavercreek Golf Course in Beavercreek, Ohio. The par-72 layout, rated 4.5 stars and featured in Golf Digest’s “Places to Play,” proved to be a worthy challenge for the field of 38 golfers representing Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Iowa, and West Virginia. Humid conditions tested every player’s stamina and focus throughout the day.
Division Results
Division 1
A back-and-forth all day battle from hole 1 to 18 between Dustin Fields (Xenia, OH) and John Fryman (Westerville, OH) came down to the final holes, with Dustin edging out John by a single point. Troy Boswell (Reynoldsburg, OH) secured third place.
Division 2
In another close finish, Rob Braun (Alexandria, KY) and Chip Schneider (Columbus, OH) went head-to-head in the same group. Rob pulled ahead by one point to claim the win, while Steve Phillips (Carroll, OH) and Chuck Knapp (Westerville, OH) rounded out the top finishers.
Division 3
Don Dawson (Reynoldsburg, OH) delivered a complete performance, running away with the victory. Richard Navratil (formally of Blansko, Czech Republic) claimed second, while Ray Conley (Hilliard, OH) finished third.
Division 4
This division came down to a dramatic finish. Johnny Sherman (Columbus, OH) posted a score that gave him a five-point clubhouse lead—until Patrick Klase (Sunbury, OH) went birdie-par on holes 17 and 18 to snatch the win by one point. Johnny and Danny Hause (North Myrtle Beach, SC) tied for second. This marks Patrick’s first win on the APT Tour.
Division 5
Current Cincinnati/Dayton Player of the Year standings leader Derek Steinfield proved his dominance again, taking the win over Tyler Philo (Beavercreek, OH) in second place, with Carlos Banks (Indianapolis, IN) finishing third.
