MILE HIGH DENVER CHAPTER OF THE AMATEUR PLAYERS TOUR

    Keystone Ranch Tournament Recap-May 31, 2025

A road trip to Keystone Ranch, Colorado greeted the Mile High Denver Chapter of the APT to a fantastic setting in the Rocky Mountains.  Situated at 9,280 feet above sea level, Keystone Ranch provides players a true experience of playing golf at altitude!  The morning was beautiful with a typical Colorado deep blue sky, towering snow packed peaks, and very cool temperatures in the high 30’s.

A 30-minute frost delay was in force so the 10:00 am shotgun start was delayed for the 63-player field.  A very typical afternoon thunderstorm greeted the players after approximately 12 holes being played and the associated lightning caused a brief ~10-minute suspension of play.  The weather after the storm was quite pleasant and sunny.

The Sold-Out field included numerous APT players from around the entire country.  Keystone hosted APT members from New York, New Hampshire (and the newly formed New England Chapter), South Carolina, Utah and California.  Everyone survived the altitude and had a great player experience at Keystone Ranch.

DIVISION 1: Nine players teed off in the D1 competition that played at over 7,000 yards.  Member and first-time player on the APT Victor Minovich won the 1st Place trophy and prize money by shooting a 76/ +4 (40-36).  Competition was very close after 9-holes with 4 players within 1 stroke of each other.  Donny Stewart and Chris Lamb had 39s on the front 9, while Minovich posted a front 9 score of 40 along with Scott Mead.  Victor had the best back 9 score of 36 to win the Division by 3 strokes.  Tied for 2nd Place prize money was Scott Mead and Donny Stewart, former Regis University golfer.

DIVISION 2:  In a field of several previous APT winners and new members, Division 2 was won by the consistent shooting Hendrik Orlowski shooting a 38-38 = 76.  Hendrik had a slim 1 stroke victory over the second-place tie players Will Naas (40-37 = 77) and Greg Otto (38-39 = 77), winner of the D2 National Major Tournament held the week before at PGA National in Florida.  Great competition that gives Will and Greg plus the rest of the field motivation to win the next D2 tournament.

DIVISION 3: This Division had the largest number of players, so the prize pool was quite large. Division 3 former APT Denver winner Andrew Lopez was the winner of the 1st place trophy and prize money.  Lopez shot a consistent 41-41 for a 10 over par score of 82.  Mark Fuentes held the lead after 9 holes with a scorching 39 on the front nine and held on to a 1 stroke win for 2nd place over Greg DeRoeck (46-41 = 87) and Mike Foxhoven (45-42 = 87).  Fuentes ended with (39-47 = 86).

DIVISION 4: Dave Funkhouser from Longs, South Carolina has adjusted to the mountains and the high altitude well during his temporary job assignment of a few months at Rocky Mountain National Park in Great Lake, Colorado.  The APT member from South Carolina came out of the chute shooting a 41 on the front nine to match Addie Berube in the Division 4 competition.  Dave stayed very consistent and shot 44 on the back nine for a very good score of 85 to win by 3 strokes.  Mike Zapf from Windsor, Colorado shot 45-43 = 88 for second-place prize money.  Addie took 3rd place with her 41-50 = 90 score.

DIVISION 5: The Mile High Denver Chapter has been actively recruiting women for membership and for D5 players in general.  Fortunately, both goals were met for the Keystone Ranch APT tournament.  D5 women and new APT members, Jami VonKaenel and Donna Jarock, rose to the top of the Division competition.  Jami shot 45 on the front nine and held a 3-stroke lead over newcomer and new member Jared Polster.  Jami won the D5 trophy and prize money with a very nice score of 98 (45-53). Donna Jarock (new member and wife of D2 player Scott Mead) was very consistent shooting 51-51 = 102 for second-place winnings with a 1 shot difference over Polster (48-55 = 103).

OPEN NET: Andrew Lopez won the Optional Cash Open Net Game with a 35-35 = 70 net score.  Mark Fuentes from Colorado Springs was Second with a 34-41 = 75 net.  Addie Berube and Griffin Woodall tied for 3rd with net scores of 76.

SENIOR NET: Players 50 years of age and older played for the Sr. Net trophy and 1st Place prize money. A large field of 18 Senior Net players vied for the trophy and prize money and was won by Dave Funkhouser from Longs, South Carolina shooting 72 Net (35-37). The next few places were won by single shots with Greg Otto winning 2nd Place with 73 Net, Mike Zapf shooting 74 Net, and Scott Mead shooting 75 Net.  3 other players ended up with Net 76.

FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE: Jarod Polster won the jackpot at Keystone Ranch in the 50/50 raffle.  Jarod won $167 and a strong contribution of $168 goes to the APT National Charity Partner Folds of Honor.
