Riverdale Dunes welcomed a full field of 56 players of the Denver Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour for a weekday, Wednesday afternoon tournament. The weather was extremely hot with temperatures hovering around 98 degrees with humidity all day.

NOTABLES: Eagles, birdies, and low scores were the highlights of the day. Ryan Gentry, Division 4 player, scored an eagle 3 on hole #9. Ryan’s Driver, and 5-iron put him 4’ from the hole and he drained the putt.  Congratulations Ryan! Gavin Monjares led the field with a total of 6 birdies on the day. Max Lange and Eric Mullins both scored 5 birdies with Bryan Eichorst scoring 4 birdies.

DIVISION 1: Division 1 had a strong field for the tournament that included Colorado School of Mines golf teammates Max Lange and Carter Lolli. At the end of the day, the duo were in the top two spots with Max Lange winning the trophy and back-to-back APT Denver tournaments with a 3 under score of 69 (34-35). Lolli ended up winning 2nd place money with a -1 score of 71 (37-34).

DIVISION 2: After being promoted to D2 earlier this season, Drew Lopez has once again won the 1st Place trophy and prize money by shooting 74 (37-37). The always competitive Hendrik Orlowski tied with new member of the APT, Emmett White for 2nd place honors. Hendrik ended with 75 (37-38), while Emmett shot (40-35) to earn the tie.  Notables in D2 at Riverdale Dunes was the number of birdies with Lopez, Orlowski, Gary Wayne, and White all carding 3 birdies each. Kevin Causey and Dave Decker both scored 2 birdies while 6 other players had 1 birdie.

DIVISION 3: New member and first-time player in an APT event, Robert Webb, shot a particularly good round of 78 (40-38) to win the trophy and 1st place money in D3. Seth Gurss shot 81 (42-39) to win 2nd place while Scott Rowley shot 82 (43-39) to win 3rd place prize money. Division 3 also saw numerous birdie putts find the hole with Doug Coleman, Gurss, and Webb all had 2 birdies, while 4 other players carded 1 birdie each.

DIVISION 4: Pete Lupfer put together an extraordinarily strong round and D4 score to win 1st place prize money and trophy. Pete battled Russell Finch and Steve Brown for the winners spot. Lupfer ended with an 82 (40-42) while Russell shot (39-45 = 84) to walk away with the 2nd place prize winnings.  Steve finished with 86 (41-45). This Division appears to be headed towards a remarkably close and tight competition for the Player of the Year Award in Denver. D4 contributed to the birdie barrage with Brown, Finch, Lupfer, Connor Rogers and Ray Rowland all sinking birdie putts.

DIVISION 5: An oncourse playoff was in the making for Division 5 at Riverdale Dunes. Brandon Jansson, winner of D5 at the last tournament at Murphy Creek, ended up in a tie with Taylor Fortini after 18 holes as they needed extra holes to determine the winner.  Brandon and Taylor had matching scores of 89 (41-48 for both players) and headed to the 1st tee with several spectators in attendance to watch the playoff. Both players aimed their tee shots directly at the pin going for the green. They both were safely in the fairway and not in the knee-high grass in front of the green. Taylor’s chip shot went over the green, while Brandon’s found the green safely. Jansson two putted for par while Fortini’s chip put him on the green but gave him a long putt. Fortini’s putt missed to

give him a bogey. Brandon won the 1st place trophy. D5 also contributed to the birdie total on the day with Cody Canzona and Raymond Lopez making birdie putts.

OPEN NET: 12 players entered the Open Net competition with newcomer Robert Webb finishing in 1st place with a -5 Net 67 to earn the trophy and prize money. He narrowly edged out Drew Lopez by 1 stroke and Lopez shot -4 Net 68 to earn 2nd place prize money.

SENIOR NET: 17 Seniors played for the trophy and prize money with Jeff Fulkerson earning the win, the trophy and 1st place money with a -4 Net 68. Seth Gurss and Pete Lupfer tied for 2nd place and split the winnings for second.

FOLDS OF HONOR 50/50 RAFFLE: Cody Canzona was the winner of the 50/50 Raffle winning $77 with a contribution of $78 going to Folds of Honor.
