On June 28, the Florida Southwest chapter of the Amateur Players Tour held our first elevated event of the 2025 season!  We had 30 of our members show up to take on the course and play for the bigger prize pools!  Highlights of the day included:

    • Division 1: In this division, Brandon Collier, and Josh Farmer jumped out to a 2-shot lead over Pierson Gill, and 3 over Davis Coss.  The back nine proved to be tougher for most of the D1 players, except Brandon Collier who bettered his front 9 -1 with a -2 34 and an impressive -3 69 for his second win.
    • Division 2: D2 saw another impressive -1 front nine by Danny Magruder who held a 2-shot lead over Allen Moore who shot 1 over.  On the back 9, Greg Deptula was able to match Magruder’s +1 but couldn’t gain any ground on him and Magruder won for the second time this season.
    • Division 3: We had the 3 points leaders in this division face off for a head-to-head battle!  On the front nine, Chris Scott jumped out to a 1-shot lead over Josh Acevedo after two impressive rounds of -1 and even par!  Jeff Rainford was lurking just a few shots back.  Scott and Acevedo struggled a bit on the back nine, while Rainford was able to card a +3 and gain some ground.  However, he could only get back 3 of the 6 strokes he trailed, and Scott won for the second week in a row, and Rainford jumped Acevedo for the 2nd place finish.
    • Division 4: The front nine was very exciting with John Moore jumping out to a 1-shot lead over Gregg Carr and 2 over Manuel Collins.  Moore and Collins struggled on the back while Carr stayed rock steady and turned in a career best 77 for his second win in as many weeks!  Dan Wojcik turned in a strong performance to jump into second place!
    • Division 5: This one was exciting and close the whole way!  Rusty Lingenfelter and Greg Gastfield took the early lead after the front with each carding a 44, and Quinton Allen was just a few back.  On the back nine, Lingenfelter would struggle a bit, but Quinton Allen’s strong back nine was not quite enough to overtake him.  Lingenfelter took home his first win of the 2025 season, and Quinton Allen jumped over Gastfield to take solo second.
    • Senior Net: We had 14 of the 16 eligible players participate in the Senior Net game, a new high percentage for this category!  After the front nine, Manuel Collins and John Moore lead the group at -5 with Gregg Carr at -4 and Danny Magruder at -3!  Those are some STRONG net scores!  Carr was the only one of the leaders to stay under par for the back, and he took home his second Sr. Net win of the season shooting -6.  Danny Magruder took second at -3, while Manuel Collins took third at -2!

A huge thank you goes out to Matt Reed and the entire staff at The National for having the course in great condition.  Everyone was friendly and very helpful!

Our next event is at Waterlefe Golf & River Club in Lakewood Ranch, and it will be on Saturday, July 12.  Remember, the more players we get, the bigger the payouts!  Sign up now for your spot to play!  Registration closes on Sunday, July 6!
