    Fossil Trace Recap

The Mile High Denver Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour kicked off the 2025 Season at Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden, Colorado.  The Club saying is “64 Million Years in the Making,” with all the plant fossils found in the rocks on the 15th hole, Par 5 along with dinosaur tracks and bones!  A Sign On A Rock

Mid-day and afternoon highs were in the 80s with bright blue skies.  It was a perfect fall day for golf in the Rocky Mountains with the course sitting adjacent to the foothills and within sight of the Home Brewery of Coors Beer.  A Golf Course With Trees And Mountains In The Background

The tournament and Denver Chapter hosted members/players from Utah (including the Chapter Owner), two APT members/players from Missouri, and two members/players from Wyoming, including one from Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne.  This course definitely attracts players from across the APT nation and would be a great possible site for an elevated or major event.

Division 1:  Joshuah Thomson, a future APT member with aspirations of turning pro, won Division 1 with a 1 over par score of 73.  The icing on the cake for Joshuah was the fact that it was his birthday and he turned 25 years old.  He barely missed a birdie putt on #18.  Garrett Wilson from Smithville, Missouri own second place, and the newly promoted member to Division 1, Gary Wayne, won 3rd place.

Division 2:  Hendrik Orlowski shot a very steady 77 to win the trophy and prize money.  There was a tie for second place with scores of 81 from a future APT member Ryan Schaller and Mile High Denver Charter Member, Justin Chiacchia.

Division 3:  Multi-tournament Division Winner in the Denver Chapter Aaron Skiles won Division 3 which was a remarkably close and tight competition. Aaron won with a score of 83 over two players tied for second with scores of 84, Seth Gurss and US Air Force Senior Airman from Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Michael Lorch.  Utah Chapter owner, Dennis McGraw, came in fourth place after “giving away the winning score and trophy,” in his words with a double and triple in the last 3 holes, but still shot 85.

Division 4:  Denver Chapter member Trent McQueen came back from a vacation of off-roading in Moab, Utah to playing a very respectful round of 92 at Fossil Trace.  It was Trent’s first win on the Denver APT Tour.  New member Albert Amaya was in second place with a 95 and there was a 3-way tie for third place with scores of 96 by former Winner and member Ray Rowland, new member Tad Sandoval, and future APT member Erick Verleye.

Division 5:  Jason Wirowek, Utah Chapter member, flew over the Rocky Mountains to Denver for Fossil Trace and smoked the field in Division 5.  Jason shot an amazing 87 to take the trophy and winnings back to Utah.  Guest Kim Gritz took second place money with a 95, followed by former APT Division 5 winner Zach Berg.

Sr. Net:  Utah Chapter owner Dennis McGraw won more bacon and hardware by winning the Sr. Net by 4 strokes with an Even Par net score.  Kim Gritz won the 2nd place money.

Open Net:  The Denver Chapter experimented with using the Open Net tournament and it was a huge success.  Fourteen players (25% of participants) played in this competition.  The big winners were Jason Wirowek from Utah with a -3 Net, Hendrik Orlowski with a -2 Net, and Seth Gurss shooting -1 Net.

Folds of Honor 50/50:  Biggest pot yet for Denver APT with Guest Ben Roth splitting the $240 pot with Folds of Honor.

Ryan Schaller had 5 birdies to lead the field.

ALL IN ALL:  Another FANTASTIC APT Tournament!!!!!
