    Verandah Golf Club – May 9, 2025

On May 9, we had 35 players take on the undulating and very fast greens at Verandah Golf Club’s Whispering Oak course!  The course played short because of the dry conditions, and the greens were running very fast!  This was the third stop on the Florida – Southwest Amateur Players Tour 2025 season.  Despite the very fast greens, some people figured out how to master them.  Highlights of the day included:

    • Division 1: This division saw 3 people within 2 shots after the front 9.  Matt Ross led the way with an even par 36, followed by Dan Dessart at 37, and Danny Magruder at 38.  Magruder and Dessart had a couple of double-bogies on the back nine while Ross continued his consistent play to take home the win with a +1, 73. This was Ross’ first win on the APT!
    • Division 2: This division started out very close after the front 9 with Allen Moore and Matt Yost leading the way with even par 36s.  Lurking just behind at 39 was Nathan Hylkema, with Nick Westbrook carding a 40.  Moore could only muster a +6 on the back, while Yost carded a +1 37 for a strong 73 and the win.
    • Division 3: After the front 9, Jeff Rainford led the group with a 40, but right behind at 41 were newcomers Mike Steele and Mike Kestel.  Just 2 back were Frank Hoffman and Brett Enos.  The back proved to be much tougher for everyone except Rainford who improved his front 9 to a +2 38 for a 78 and the win.
    • Division 4: Division 4 saw John Moore and Gregg Carr both shoot 43s to lead by 2 over Manual Collins.  The back 9 got the better of Collins and Carr, but Moore improved to 41 on the back and he walked away with the win!
    • Division 5: This group saw Dave Densieski jump out to a 2-shot lead over Charles Peacock, and a 4-shot lead over Lee Thompson after the front 9.  Densieski was unable to keep his torrid pace going on the back, but both Peacock and Thompson could not muster a comeback, and Densieski held on for the win.
    • Senior Net: 16 out of the 22 eligible players participated in the Senior Net game, In the end, our D3 and D4 winners, Jeff Rainford and John Moore tied for first at -1 with our D5 winner, Dave Densieski taking home third with +1.

A huge thank you goes out to Adam Miller and the entire staff at Verandah for giving us the ability to play 3-somes and 10-minute intervals!  Everyone did an EXCELLENT job with pace-of-play with every group finishing in under 4 hours!

Our next event is at Eagle Ridge in Fort Myers, and it will be on Sunday, June 1.  Remember, the more players we get, the bigger the payouts!  Sign up now for your spot to play!  Registration closes on 5/26!
