Tournament Champions
Green Valley Ranch Recap
The Mile High Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour hosted the 2nd event of the 2025 Fall Season on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Green Valley Ranch, home of the Colorado Open, Ladies Open and Sr. Open. This tournament was the first shotgun for the Denver Chapter. Twenty-seven players were overly excited to play in the shotgun because it allowed everyone to get together before and after the round to meet other players from all Divisions.
The morning sunrise was spectacular with bright golden color to match the fall colors of the trees at Green Valley Ranch. Clouds on the eastern horizon added to the majestic beginning of the day. The tournament began with a brisk early morning and warmed up to a very pleasant fall day in the Rocky Mountains. The shotgun tournament was highly successful and the players and all who were involved agreed that we need more tournaments like this.
DIVISION 1: Competition was close for member Talyn Haskell and multi-winner in APT tournaments, Chris Lamb. Chris was very steady with his score of 37-37 for a 2-over par 74. Chris won the Division by 3 strokes.
DIVISION 2: New member to the Denver Chapter, Peter Epsteen, showed off his skills to win this division going away with a 6-stroke victory over Charter Member of the Denver Chapter, Connor Martin. Peter shot a very respectable 37-38 = 75. Division 1 players may want to keep an eye on Peter if he continues his fantastic play. Division 2 and Division 3 both had ten players competing in their respective Divisions.
DIVISION 3: Three players were within four strokes of each other in a close race for the Championship of this division, Andrew Lopez, along with multi-tournament APT winners Aaron Skiles and Michael Lorch, visiting once again from Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Andrew, also known as Drew (and Steady Eddie) pulled off the victory with a score of 82 for his first APT victory! Aaron shot 84, followed by Michael with 86.
DIVISION 4: The division was a little light on the total number of players. In addition to being a shotgun tournament, the Chapter owner, Kirk Hulbert, was able to play and join the Division 4 players, Jim O’Shea, and Denny Krochmal. The competition had its ups and downs for all players with several birdies, but also plenty of the dreaded “triple bogey max” holes. When Jim announced to Kirk on the 18th green while standing over an ~15’ putt, “I need to make this to win,” Kirk was totally surprised to find out he even had a chance to win. The competition was tied with a total of 92 and went to a playoff for 1st place. Jim and Kirk had to go to the Short Course Par 3 for the playoff. Jim’s tee shot went long over the green onto a small hill. Kirk followed with his tee shot on the 78-yard 1sthole with a ball that bounced on the green, rolled toward the pin, almost went in for a hole in one and stopped about a foot past the hole. Jim announced he needed to chip in just to tie and move to a second hole. Kirk won the playoff with a birdie 2 while Jim was able to make par.
OPEN NET: Numerous players opted in for this week’s competition. Andrew Lopez was hot for the day and won Open Net to go along with his division winning with a Net 73/+1 over par. Aaron Skiles won second place with a net 75. Sky Hoffman was only 1 stroke behind second place with a Net 76. Congratulations to Andrew for taking home 2 trophies and a lot of Tournament Credit!
SENIOR NET: New member to the Denver APT Chapter for 2025, Travis Rhuby, won the Senior Net with a total of 76, 4 over Par. Travis was extremely excited to win the trophy and tournament credit. 2nd place went to Kirk Hulbert, and Bob Castellino & John Chmara tied for third place.
FOLDS OF HONOR: Seth Gurss was the winner of the 50/50 Folds of Honor drawing. Seth and Folds of Honor split the $50 pot.
NOTABLES: Peter Epsteen led the field with 4 birdies. Talyn Haskell followed with 3 birdies. Chris Lamb had 2 birdies plus 10 pars in a row on holes 2-11. Ryan Millican and Travis Rhuby also had 2 birdies.
OVERALL: Another fun and competitive tournament is in the books for the Mile High Denver Chapter. Next week is the much-anticipated Fall 2025 Season finally at the highly acclaimed, recently redesigned course and brand-new club house at Denver City Park.
