APT Houston Visits Kingwood’s Island Course

The Houston Amateur Players Tour made another first-time visit this time to the Island Course at the Clubs of Kingwood.  Although the outlook seemed uncertain after 2.5 inches of rain the night before and another storm threat midafternoon, the bad weather ended up passing us, resulting in overcast skies that made the temperature more bearable. The players were ready to take on the challenge of The Island Course.

    Division 1

The action started early with Jason Hawthorne opening with a birdie on the first hole, but Jarrod Brown quickly responded with an eagle to set the tone. Brown made the turn at 35 (-1), while Hawthorn sat at 38 (+2). Jarrod stayed consistent on the back nine, finishing with a solid 77 (+5) to claim the win by five strokes.

    Division 2

Darien Duhon led the front nine with a 39 (+3), closely followed by James Michalsky and Robert Scarpati at 40 (+4). James took the lead with a birdie on the 11th, while Stephen Bransburg tied things up with a birdie on 16. But Duhon stayed steady, closing with three pars to secure the victory at 79 (+7). Bransburg finished second with an 80 (+8).

    Division 3

Gary Josephson continued his strong play with a front-nine 41 (+5), with Troy White just one back at 42 (+6).  Aryanto Maramis, visiting from the California Chapter, matched White through 12 holes. But a clutch par on the demanding 18th gave Troy the edge, earning him the win with an 85 (+13). Aryanto finished second with an 86 (+14).

    Division 4

Martin Scarpati grabbed the early lead with a 45 (+9), narrowly ahead of Robert Vespa at 46 (+10). Vespa caught up on hole 12, but Scarpati regained the lead on 13 and sealed the win with key pars on 16 and 17, finishing with a 91 (+19). Vespa took second place with a 95 (+23).

    Division 5

Rick Pritchard came out strong with a 48 (+12), but Anthony Vespa and Jeff Henry stayed close with opening 50s (+14). Vespa closed the gap with a birdie on 11, pulling within one, but Pritchard’s steady play—including three straight pars—secured back-to-back wins with a final score of 94 (+22). Vespa finished runner-up at 99 (+27).

    Senior Net

Rick Pritchard capped off a stellar day with a net score of 72 (E) to win the Senior Net Division. Darien Duhon claimed second at 74 (+2), followed by Troy White in third with a 75 (+3).

Congratulations to all of our winners!
