The Houston APT made its inaugural stop at the South Shore Harbour Country Club in League City, and Mother Nature nearly stole the show. With thunderstorms looming all week, players braced for a soggy, cart-path-only grind, but in true dramatic fashion, the skies cleared just in time, and the course was primed for a showdown.
Division 1: Fresh off a win at Wildcat, Jason Hawthorn came out blazing with two birdies and a sizzling 34 (-2) on the front. But the real fireworks came late, as Jarrod Brown and Jared Marusic locked horns in a back-nine battle. Brown surged ahead with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17, but Marusic wasn’t done—he dropped a jaw-dropping eagle on 17 to close the gap. In the end, Brown’s steady hand delivered a clutch even-par 72, edging Marusic by a single shot in a nail-biter.
Division 2: It was a tightrope walk on the front nine as Steve Christensen and Darien Duhon matched each other stroke for stroke at 42 (+6). But Christensen found another gear on the back, dropping a birdie on 13 and never looking back. He held off the charge to post an 82 (+10) and claimed his second straight victory!
Division 3: Alvin Miles led early with a 40 (+4), but Troy White was lurking just one shot behind. After a stumble on 7, White flipped the switch—birdie on 12, then a scorching finish with birdies on 17 and 18 for a back-nine 35 (-1). He closed with a 76 (+4) and left the field in the dust!
Division 4: Allen Thompson birdied 7 and posted a solid 42 (+6), but the back nine turned into a pressure cooker. Loyd Esler came charging, tying things up on 15. But Thompson stayed cool under fire, grinding out an 87 (+15) to win by a single stroke. Esler’s valiant 88 (+16) earned him a hard-fought second.
Division 5: This one was a four-man brawl from the start. Rick Pritchard led with a 48 (+12), but Anthony Vespa, Ricardo Ramirez, and Tom Tribble were all within striking distance. Vespa tied it with a birdie on 10, Tribble clawed back to tie it on 15, but Pritchard delivered the dagger—a clutch par on 18 to lock in a 93 (+21) and his second win of the season. Tribble finished just one shot back at 94 (+22).
Senior Net: Troy White wasn’t finished after his D3 win—he torched the course with a net 67 (-5) to take the Senior Net title! Loyd Esler followed with a strong 70 (-2), and Rick Pritchard rounded out the podium with a 73 (+1).
Congratulations to all the winners! We will see everyone at Kingwood for our next tournament.
