Tournament Champions
It was a wild day of competition at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex – The Posse course! We had perfect weather on Sunday, cool temps and a slight breeze alongside Smithville lake. Every division’s leaderboard was exciting to watch as the lead changed multiple times throughout the day.
In Division 1, it looked like Kevin Stief was going to run away it after 9 holes, shooting an impression -3! But Kory Glasgow and Jake Englebrake didn’t give up. Jake fired off 3 birdies of his own on the front nine to tie Kory. Kevin stumbled on the back, giving Kory and Jake an opportunity to tie it up. It all came down to the last hole. With an impressive string of pars on the back 9, Jake was the clubhouse leader. To force a playoff Kory needed his putt to fall for birdie but fate had other plans with a vicious lip out. Congratulations to Jake for his first win of the year!
Division 2 was another nailbiter. After 9 holes Shawn Howard was leading the pack by 4 strokes! Not to be outdone, Curt Admire and Eric Brown both had solid back 9s, shooting 39 and 38 respectively. As the clubhouse leaders at 79, all eyes were on Shawn. With a bogey on 16 and double on 17, a playoff looked to be imminent. But a great recovery on hole 18 gave Shawn his first win of the year!
The leaderboard in Division 3 was changed about a dozen times throughout the day. Brandon Hale and Kale Danders led the pack through 9 holes, with Brandon shooting an impressive 38. But as players approached the back 9, Brandon stumbled which left an opening for Zach Terry, Dale Hotop, Chris Hubbard, Jerry Zeller and Kale. An unfortunately double on 16 for Chris and triple on 17 for Kale took both out of the race. A playoff between Zach, Jerry and Dale took place on hole 18. Zach almost holed out for eagle with an impressive approach shot that spun backwards just past the cup. Dale and Jerry both had difficult birdie putts atop the ridge. Zach capitalized and took the win!
Division 4 was a packed leaderboard with 5 players within 3 strokes. Coming out strong was TJ Bowers, finishing 9 holes at 42, with Jeff and James only a stroke behind. A few missteps on 10 and 11 moved TJ down the board allowing Jeff to continue his consistent play on the back 9. With James and TJ first to the clubhouse, all eyes were on Jeff for a strong finish and that he did! Congratulations Jeff on your first win of the year!
In Division 5 we had 6 players within 2 strokes for our most competitive round in 4 years. First to the clubhouse was Nick Reusch with a strong 92. But William Yancey, Casey Wise, Perla Kennedy, Keegan Jerabek and Brandon Voran all traded blows throughout the back 9. All William needed to do was par the last hole to take the win, but an unfortunate double led to our first 5 member playoff! Streamed live, each player tee’d off on hole 10 in a single group with multiple members spectating. With the added pressure each player had to hold it together, each player put a ball in play with Perla piping one right down the center. It all came down to the approach with William sticking one on the green, Perla just off the green, and Brandon/Keegan with impressive chip shots. Perla’s birdie putt barely slid past the hole while William left himself a knee knocker par putt. Brandon and Keegan just barely missed their par putts, leaving the playoff to Perla and William. Perla’s putt missed just short while William was able to score his second consecutive win! Congratulations to all players!
