Despite some recent rainy weather we lucked out and had a beautiful dry day at Eagle Bend Golf Club in Lawrence, KS. 88 Players across 5 divisions competed in our modified Stableford event. A first in KC, we had playoffs in Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3!

In Division 1, it was anyone’s game as only 3 points separated the top 6 players. At the top of the leaderboard was Nick May and Kory Glasgow. Leading the pack coming into 18, Kory only needed a bogie or better to take the win. An unfortunate double on the par 5 18th netted zero points and with Nick finishing with par, a playoff ensued. It only took one hole for Kory to take back the lead and walk away with another win!

In Division 2, we had two newcomers leading the pack throughout the day. Consistent but aggressive play by Andrew Murawski and Chase Terrell led to our highest point totals for the event at 34. Coming into 18, Andrew just needed a par to tie, leading to another playoff! As in D1, it only took one hole to determine the winner, with Andrew taking his first win on APT!

In Division 3 we had a packed field of 34 players. First into the clubhouse was Aaron Scholz at 28 points. This score held until the final group, where Kent Bourzikas needed par or better on the difficult 18th hole to tie. Kent rose to the challenge, leading to a playoff with Aaron. Both players competed on the first hole to determine the winner, with Kent taking home his first win!

Division 4 saw some familiar faces at the top of the leaderboard! Kyle Wilson, John Bilek and newcomers Shefdan Kennedy and James Smelcer were all within 2 points coming into the home stretch. With a birdie on 18, it looked like Shefdan might take his first win. James finished strong on the back 9, ousting Shefdan by 1 point. But veteran member Kyle Wilson had a strong front 9 and held it together on the back to win by just one point over James.

In Division 5, veteran member William Spicer had one of his lowest rounds to date on the APT with an 89! As the first one to the clubhouse his 19 points was the score to beat. But in the last group was Aaron Eaton, our winner from WinterStone two weeks ago. He played another consistent round, at 23 points to take another win on the APT. A promotion to Division 4 is likely in his future!

We appreciate everyone that came out to play in our Spring Opener! Next up is our Excelsior Springs Championship on May 18th. This event is near it’s sell out point with only 2 weeks left to register! The season is just underway, so now is a great time to join the tour and get in on the action!  Sign up today at www.aptgolf.org.
