Minneapolis Chapter Heats Up at Fox Hollow Despite Chilly Start

The Minneapolis Chapter kept the momentum rolling as nearly 20 players teed it up for the second event of the season at the beautiful but challenging Fox Hollow Golf Club. What started as a brisk spring morning with temps hovering around 48° quickly gave way to a sun-soaked afternoon in the mid-60s, setting the stage for a day full of drama, momentum swings, and impressive performances.

    Division 1 – Hoops Goes Back-to-Back

It was a two-man showdown in Division 1 between Chase Hoops and Chapter Owner Chris Van Spankeren, and despite less-than-typical Division 1 scoring, the match was tight from start to finish. Hoops carried a narrow lead for much of the round until Chris caught fire and drew even on the 12th hole. With the match tied heading to the par-5 13th, it looked like Chris might seize the momentum after a solid tee shot while Chase found trouble left. But Chase flipped the script with a stellar approach to 30 feet and—after burning edges all day—drained the clutch putt for birdie. Chris, after finding the hazard long, salvaged bogey, but the two-shot swing was the difference. Hoops held steady the rest of the way to card an 82 and claim his second straight Division 1 title, edging Chris by 2 strokes.

Division 2 – Stepan Seals It Late

Leo Stepan wasted no time taking control of Division 2, opening with a birdie and going 1-under through five holes. After a stumble with back-to-back bogeys, Leo left the door open for Nicholas Mathews, who answered with a resilient front 9 capped by seven straight pars to pull even at the turn. The duel intensified on the back 9, with Nicholas grabbing the lead heading to the 14th hole. But Fox Hollow’s closing stretch proved brutal once again. Nicholas faltered with a +6 finish over the last five holes, while Leo surged, going 1-under over that same span to close out a gritty 74 and earn a commanding 5-shot win.

Division 3 – Kaiser Clutches First Victory in Playoff Thriller

Division 3 featured the day’s most dramatic finish as Don Scott and newcomer Danny Kaiser went head-to-head in a nail-biting battle. Danny held a slim 1-shot edge at the turn, but Don turned up the pressure late, flipping the lead by the 14th hole.

Up two with two to play, Don looked poised to lock it up—until Danny made par on the 17th and Don stumbled to a double, setting up a winner-take-all 18th hole. Both players matched scores, leading to a sudden-death playoff.

On the playoff hole, Don striped one down the right side while Danny pulled his tee shot into the trees—only to catch a miracle bounce back into the fairway. Taking full advantage, Danny stuck his approach inside 15 feet and calmly two-putted for par. Don couldn’t match it, and Danny Kaiser walked away with his first career APT win in electrifying fashion.

Division 4 – Seman Shines in Statement Win

Austin Seman was a man on a mission in Division 4. After a solid front nine gave him a 3-shot cushion over Michael Tidd, he turned it up another notch on the back. Austin played even better down the stretch, firing a 40 on the inward nine to post a tournament-best 84 in the division.

There was no catching him after that, and Austin coasted to an 8-shot victory—a dominant performance and his first career win on tour. If this round is any indication, it won’t be his last.

Closest to the Pin – Van Spankeren Dialed In

While Chris Van Spankeren narrowly missed out on the Division 1 crown, he still took home hardware by winning the Closest to the Pin contest, stuffing his tee shot to just 6 feet 11 inches on the par-3 15th.

Next Up: With two successful events in the books, the Minneapolis Chapter is off to a flying start. The competition is heating up, and players are already eyeing the next showdown. Stay tuned as the field continues to grow and rivalries take root in Minnesota’s newest APT battleground!
