2025 Minneapolis Chapter Event #3 Recap – New Ulm Country Club

The Minneapolis Chapter rolled into New Ulm Country Club for its third stop of the 2025 season—and while the temperatures soared into the 90s, the leaderboard action was even hotter. With sun-drenched fairways, fast greens, and plenty on the line, the players battled the heat and each other in a thrilling day of competition that featured dramatic comebacks, clutch shots, and one unforgettable eagle.

Division 1 – Brett Holds On in Wild Finish

It was a classic battle in Division 1 between Minnesota local Brett Mathiowetz and visiting contender Mark Macejko from the Carolina Triad chapter. The front nine was a see-saw affair, with Brett clinging to a narrow lead until a costly double bogey on 7 combined with Mark’s birdie on 9 flipped the script. Mark took a 2-shot advantage into the back nine.

But the back nine belonged to Brett—despite the roller coaster ride. He caught fire with a birdie on 11, while Mark stumbled with a bogey to pull the match even. Brett then strung together steady pars on 12 and 13, while Mark’s bogey train kept chugging, giving Brett a two-shot lead. A late surge by Mark narrowed it to one, but Brett slammed the door with clutch birdies on 16 and 17.

Then, drama struck. A triple bogey on 18 threatened to derail the comeback story, but Brett had just enough cushion. His +6 (77) was good enough to hold off Mark by two shots in one of the day’s most intense finishes.

Division 2 – Erickson Rallies with Shot of the Day

In Division 2, it was Josh Erickson vs. Nick Mathews, and early on it looked like Nick might run away with it. Nick was -1 through 3 and had built a 3-shot lead at the turn, thanks in part to some early mistakes by Josh.

But the back nine was a different story. Josh turned up the heat with a birdie on 11 and watched as Nick bogeyed 12. Suddenly, the lead was down to one. The two players matched each other shot for shot for three holes—until everything changed.

While Nick collapsed with back-to-back doubles on 16 and 17, Josh delivered the shot of the tournament—a hole-out eagle from 140 yards on 17 that sent shockwaves across the leaderboard. He followed it up with a clean par on 18 to close out a 32 (-3) on the back nine, turning a 3-shot deficit into a commanding 6-shot win.

Division 3 – Scott Stays Steady to Capture First Win

With just two players in the field, Donald Scott knew that patience and consistency would be key—and that’s exactly what he delivered. After opening with pars on 1 and 2, Don kept the ball in play and limited mistakes, with bogeys and just a single double through 7 holes.

His lone challenger, Derek Cormier, struggled to find rhythm early, opening with a double and suffering three triple bogeys before the turn. But Derek deserves credit for digging deep, playing the final 7 holes at just +3 to salvage his round.

Despite a shaky finish that included a double and triple bogey on the final two holes, Donald’s steady start gave him all the breathing room he needed, cruising to a 9-shot victory and his first APT title.

Division 4 – Tidd Triumphs in Dominant Fashion

From the moment he teed off, Michael Tidd was in total control of Division 4. A double on the opening hole could’ve shaken his confidence, but he quickly bounced back with a birdie on 2 and never looked back. Michael played steady, controlled golf the rest of the front nine, carding a solid 42.

The back nine was more of the same. Though he hit a few bumps along the way, Michael never made worse than a double and racked up several clean holes that kept the pressure on the field. With a complete, consistent performance, he coasted to a 15-shot victory over Matt Wenner in what can only be described as a statement win.

Closest to the Pin – Erickson Adds More Hardware

Already basking in his Division 2 victory, Josh Erickson had more to celebrate—winning the Closest to the Pin contest on the par-3 14th hole, sticking it to just 17 feet to edge out the field and cap off a stellar day.

Next Stop – The Road Heats Up

With another exciting chapter written in Minneapolis, the players turn their eyes to the next stop in what’s shaping up to be an unforgettable 2025 season. With momentum building, rivalries heating up, and the Player of the Year races tightening, the road to the championship is just getting started.
