Electric Energy and Picture-Perfect Weather Mark Historic First Event for APT Minneapolis at The Links at Northfork
Ramsey, MN – A new chapter was born in bold fashion as the Amateur Players Tour – Minneapolis Chapter officially launched its inaugural event at the stunning Links at Northfork, and the debut couldn’t have asked for a better setting. With sun-soaked skies, a high of 85 degrees, and barely a whisper of wind, 20 excited competitors took to the Scottish-style layout, eager to make their mark on a day filled with birdies, eagles, comebacks, and drama.
In Division 1, it was Chase Hoops who stole the spotlight early and never let go. He came out of the gates like a man on fire, rattling off three birdies in his first four holes to take firm control. Though the back nine threw a curveball at him — including a bogey-double stumble on 15 and 16 — Chase regrouped with calm, clutch pars on 17 and 18 to finish with a red-hot 71 (-1). That was more than enough to cruise to a six-shot victory over Harry Hanskat, and to earn the day’s Closest to the Pin prize with a laser-tight shot to 8 feet, 1 inch on the par-3 7th.
Division 2 brought the kind of drama fans love. Kyle Trites and Leo Stepan were neck-and-neck through 8 holes, but Leo shifted into another gear by eagling the 9th and then following it up with a birdie at 10 — suddenly holding a three-shot lead. But golf has a way of humbling even the hottest hands. Kyle’s steady play down the stretch — just +2 over the final five holes — was enough to overtake Leo, who bogeyed his way home. Kyle edged out the win by a single shot in a thrilling battle of composure vs. momentum.
Division 3 delivered another nail-biter. Guest Aaron Tinklenberg built an early cushion with a two-shot lead at the turn and extended it to three after Keshaun Story double-bogeyed the par-3 12th. But just as the lead seemed safe, the infamous 14th struck again — Aaron doubled it, and his round spiraled. While Aaron posted +7 over the final four holes, Keshaun stayed rock-steady, only dropping two shots in that same stretch to complete a stunning comeback and claim the win by two shots.
In Division 4, it was Derek Cormier’s show from the very first swing. After opening with a birdie, he quickly separated himself from the pack with smart, steady play. Aside from a single double and a late-round triple at the difficult 14th, Derek kept his card clean, never letting the pressure get to him. He closed strong with even par over the final four holes, sealing a comfortable five-shot victory over Tyler Storandt.
Even the Senior Net division, with just two players, brought intense competition. Rob Vincent (Iowa chapter) had a three-shot lead on Donald Scott going into the 14th, but — in what had become a theme — that hole proved to be the turning point. Rob made a costly net-double bogey, while Donald birdied it on the card (net), tying things up. A crucial misstep by Rob on 17 let Donald slip ahead for good, and his par on 18 sealed a hard-earned two-shot victory.
With great scores, tight finishes, and pristine conditions, the Minneapolis Chapter has officially arrived — and made a powerful first impression. The future looks bright up north, and the energy from this kickoff event will surely carry into the rest of the season!
