Hunterdon County Showdown at Heron Glen RECAP
The New Jersey Amateur Players Tour Heats Up at Heron Glen
The New Jersey Amateur Players Tour charged into July fast and furious with a packed field of 60 players competing on July 12th at Heron Glen Golf Club in Ringoes, New Jersey. To say it was humid would be an understatement—but the sweltering conditions didn’t stop players from bringing their best to one of the state’s top public courses.
Heron Glen, consistently ranked among New Jersey’s premier daily-fee golf courses, delivered a true championship-caliber test. Known for its immaculate conditions, strategic layout, and scenic rolling terrain, the course challenged players with tight fairways, well-guarded greens, and a finishing stretch that demanded precision.
In Division 1, The front nine proved to be the tougher stretch for this tightly contested field of four. At the turn, both John Krawczyk and Adam Lubenow sat at +7 (43), with Blake Kocsis trailing closely at +8 (44). It was a tight race down the stretch to see who would walk away with the hardware. Krawczyk and Lubenow remained deadlocked heading to the 17th tee. Under pressure, Lubenow closed with back-to-back bogeys, while Krawczyk held steady with two clutch pars to secure the win. Krawczyk posted a final score of +8 (80), edging out Lubenow, who finished in solo second at +10 (82).
In Division 2, With a field of 14 players, this division turned into a battle to the very last hole. In a tightly packed leaderboard, the eventual winner edged out second place by just one stroke and finished four clear of fourth. Mark Monkhouse emerged victorious, carding a steady +3 (75) to claim the top spot. Just one shot back, Richard Knox and Ben Stuart shared second place honors with matching scores of +4 (76), making for one of the day’s most competitive finishes.
In Division 3, With a strong field of 19 players, this division delivered drama all the way to the final hole—and beyond. Just seven strokes separated first from seventh place, setting the stage for one of the most intense finishes of the day. The spotlight quickly turned to Nicholas Lazarchuck and Michael Gaytan. Lazarchuck posted a clubhouse-leading +10 (82) and waited anxiously as Gaytan, one stroke ahead heading to the 18th, needed a birdie to force a playoff. Facing a lengthy putt, Gaytan calmly rolled it in to match Lazarchuck at +10 (82), sending the two into sudden death. The playoff began on Hole 1, with a crowd of fellow players trailing behind to watch the action unfold. Lazarchuck’s tee shot was shaky, but he recovered well, leaving himself just short of the green with a simple chip. Gaytan, meanwhile, found the green in two, setting up a long look at birdie. Gaytan’s birdie attempt came up short, while Lazarchuck chipped it close to leave a short putt for par. Lazarchuck, putting first, narrowly missed and tapped in for bogey. Gaytan then stepped up with a chance to seal the win. With nerves evident, he backed off once to regroup—but composed himself and drained the par putt to clinch the victory. Rounding out the top finishers, Tom Welsh claimed third at +11 (83), and Darren Barberio followed in fourth at +12 (84).
In Division 4, In a competitive field of 14 players, just six strokes separated first from sixth place, making for a tightly contested battle throughout the day. Carmine Ciccarelli put together an impressive round, navigating the conditions with consistency to take the win with a final score of +10 (82). Closing out the prize pool in a tie for second were Adam Reed and Andrew Repetto, both finishing at +12 (84).
In Division 5, In a tight field of 8 players, just one stroke separated first from fourth place, making every shot count. Paul Taylor, fresh off his win at RiverWinds, went back-to-back with another victory, posting a +21 (93) to edge out the competition. Hot on his heels were Frank Romano, David Davidson, and Rodney Johnson I, all finishing in a three-way tie for second at +22 (94).
