Tournament Champions
On Sunday, August 24, 2025, The New Jersey Amateur Players Tour returned to the storied Rutgers University Golf Course in Piscataway, New Jersey. With a competitive field of 59 golfers vying for crucial points and just one event remaining on the 2025 schedule to determine our Season Local Player of the Year, this tournament was high-stakes for many.
The Rutgers University Golf Course—originally founded in 1894 and reborn as an 18-hole, PGA-sanctioned course in 1963—offers a par-71 layout across 170 acres of meticulously maintained, tree-lined fairways. Designed by Hal Purdy, the course features fast greens and water hazards on seven holes, and remains one of New Jersey’s most celebrated public venues.
Among Rutgers’ proud alumni is Chris Gotterup, who competed collegially on this very course before joining the PGA Tour. In 2025, Gotterup made headlines by winning the Scottish Open, earning spots in both the British Open and the 2026 Masters—solidifying his status as one of Rutgers’ most successful golfers ever.
That day brought ideal conditions for competition: temperatures averaged 23.6 °C (74 °F), with a high near 29.4 °C (85 °F) and a low around 17.8 °C (64 °F), providing a comfortable and fair test for all players.

In Division 2, Division play was tight with a strong field of 13 competitors and only four strokes separating the leader from third place. Peter Iosso and Adam Gamble each posted solid rounds of +7 (78), while Brian Coakley edged ahead with a +6 (77) to secure solo second. But the spotlight belonged to John Sanginari, who delivered a stellar performance, firing a +3 (74) to claim the well-earned victory.

The battle for fourth ended in a three-way tie, as Michael Gaytan, Tom Davenport, and Timothy Dublynn all carded +14 (85). Dennis McPartlan secured solo third with a +13 (84), while Michael DeLuca held steady in second at +12 (83). But the story of the day belonged to Kevin Martyn—returning for only his second event since hip surgery—who made a statement by capturing the win with an impressive +10 (81).
In Division 4, In a field of 14 players, only four strokes separated the winner from third place, making for a tightly contested battle. Terrance Higgins and Jose Martinez shared third with scores of +17 (88), while Carmine Ciccarelli claimed solo second at +16 (87). But the day belonged to Michael DeVito, who captured his first victory in his debut season on the Amateur Players Tour, posting a steady +13 (84) to secure the win.
In Division 5, Hole 18 delivered plenty of drama, with just two strokes separating first place from fourth. Nicolas Vacca finished at +24 (95), while Anthony Smith and Frank Romano entered the final hole deadlocked. Under pressure, Romano rose to the moment with a clutch par, while Smith slipped with a bogey. That stumble dropped Smith into a tie with Kamil Lyczko at +23 (94), leaving Romano to hang on and claim victory by a single stroke at +22 (93).
In Open Net: The Open Net competition came down to the wire, as both Carmine Ciccarelli and Jose Martinez finished with matching Net scores of +3 (74). With the title on the line, the winner was decided by a scorecard playoff. Martinez delivered in the clutch, posting a back nine Net score of -2 (33) to edge out Ciccarelli’s Net Score +4 (39) and claim the trophy.
