The New Jersey Amateur Players Tour kept things rolling in South Jersey with a spectacular stop at Scotland Run Golf Club on Monday, July 28th! With 47 players teeing it up, the day was filled with competitive spirit, great camaraderie, and some serious shot-making.
Set against the stunning backdrop of one of South Jersey’s premier private courses—carved through an old sand quarry—Scotland Run delivered its signature challenge with pristine fairways, fast greens, and a layout that tests every part of your game. The weather couldn’t have been better—sunny skies, warm temps, and just enough breeze to make club selection interesting.
From tight fairways to risk-reward par 5s, the course kept players on their toes all day. Let’s dive into the highlights from a memorable day on the tour! ⛳🔥
In Division 1, A field of four elite players teed it up at Scotland Run, and the competition was tight from the start. At the turn, Chris Walusz and Dan Ayars shared the lead at +4 (39), holding a one-shot edge over David Ripa, who sat at +5 (40), and a three-stroke lead over Chris Meares at +7 (42). On the back nine, Ayars caught fire, shooting a steady +1 to finish with an impressive +5 (76), securing the win. Ripa held on for second place, posting a final score of +10 (82).
In Division 2, In a tightly contested Division 2 battle featuring 15 players, just five strokes separated first from fifth, setting the stage for an exciting finish. Gil Moniz rose to the top with a steady round of +8 (79) to claim the win. Just two shots behind was Michael Kraft, finishing solo second at +10 (81). Ian Farley and Brian Coakley shared third, each carding a +11 (82). Rounding out the top five, John Sanignari and Steve Winnick tied for fifth with matching scores of +13 (84).
In Division 3, Division 3 brought the drama with a competitive field of 14 golfers, where just three strokes separated the top five finishers. It was so tight, in fact, that it took extra holes to crown a champion. Michael Gaytan and Gary Greener both finished regulation tied at +13 (84), forcing a sudden death playoff. After matching bogeys on the first playoff hole, it was Greener who edged ahead on the second, making bogey to claim the victory over Gaytan’s double. Kelly Hopkins secured solo third with a round of +14 (85), while Nick Lazarchuck took fourth at +15 (86). Larry Barber and John Eastlack rounded out the top five with matching scores of +16 (87) to tie for fifth.
In Division 4, Jose Martine made a strong statement, capturing first place with a final score of +14 (85). Just behind him, Kurt Bonewitz secured solo second at +17 (88). Terrence Higgins was close on his heels, finishing third with a +18 (89). Rounding out the top finishers, Illyas Sarwari and Sal Leto shared fourth place, each posting a +19 (90).
In Division 5, Though it was a small field, the competition was tight at the turn, with Stephen Kraus holding a two-stroke lead over Kyle Crain. But it was Crain’s strong play on the back nine that made the difference, propelling him to first place with a final score of +26 (97). Kraus followed closely behind, finishing at +28 (99).
In Open Net: Division 4 champion Jose Martinez didn’t just take home one title—he also claimed the Open Net Champion honors with an impressive Net score of -3 (68). Michael Gaytan secured second place with a solid Net -1 (70), and Nick Lazarchuck rounded out the prize pool, finishing third with a Net +2 (73).
In Senior Net: With 21 golfers competing across all five divisions, it was Division 2 Champion Kurt Moniz who also claimed the Senior Net title, finishing with a Net Score +1 (72). Gil Moniz and Sal Leto shared second place with a solid +2 (73), while Brian Coakley, Larry Barber, and Terrence Higgins rounded out the prize pool in a three-way tie for fourth, each posting a Net Score of +3 (74).
