Tournament Champions
What a kickoff to the 2025 season!
April 14th, 2025 was a milestone day for the New Jersey Amateur Players Tour as we launched our season with an elevated inaugural event at the beautiful Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains, NJ.
⏱️ 111 players teed off in a 10:00am shotgun, setting the tone for an unforgettable day of competition and camaraderie.
We were proud to welcome 6 APT chapters to The Shack:
New Jersey, Central PA, Metro NY, Virginia Capital, Myrtle Beach (SC), and Birmingham (AL) — and even more exciting, 34 new members joined the Amateur Players Tour family!
The practice greens and driving range were buzzing with intensity.
$2,560 in Skins & Super Skins was up for grabs, with a total payout of $6,065 across Divisions 1–5, Open Net, and Senior Net!
Division 1 was a battle from the very first tee!
Defending 2024 Tillinghast Challenge Champion Dan Ayars came in ready to defend his title, facing off against a talented field of four other elite players. Ayars started strong with par-birdie on his opening holes — but Adam Fuchs wasn’t backing down, answering right back with birdie-par, then dropping another birdie on his 3rd hole to turn up the pressure.
Also in the mix was David Ripa, who put together a solid front nine, going 1-under through 6 holes before stumbling slightly with back-to-back bogeys. Both Ripa and Ayars made the turn at +1 (36), while Fuchs surged ahead with an impressive -1 (34).
The back nine turned into a duel between Ayars and Fuchs, trading shots down the stretch. Heading into 18, Ayars trailed Fuchs by just one. Both players made par on the final hole — and it was just enough for Adam Fuchs to hold on and take the win, earning the title of 2025 Tillinghast Challenge Champion with a clutch +1 (71).
Division 2 brought the heat with a stacked field of 31 players — and it didn’t disappoint!
At the turn, it was shaping up to be a shootout, with 8 players all within striking distance.
Leading the way at +1 (36) were Josh Larys and John Sanginari, followed closely by Adam Gamble, Jeff Grubb, Christian Alderucci, and Jeff Dofflemyer at +3 (38). Just one shot behind them were Rocky Dare, Gary Bordick, and John Wiladsen at +4 (39) — making for a tightly packed leaderboard.
But the back nine wasn’t kind to everyone. Larys, Dofflemyer, Bordick, and Wiladsen couldn’t quite keep pace as the battle heated up. Meanwhile, Dare, Alderucci, Gamble, Grubb, and Sanginari pushed forward, keeping the pressure high. Dare was in contention until a costly double bogey on 16. Alderucci suffered the same fate on 15 — both finishing tied for 4th place at +8 (78). Heading into the final two holes, it was a three-man race:
Gamble and Grubb were tied at +5, with Sanginari just one back at +6.
The turning point? Hole 17. Both Grubb and Sanginari double bogeyed, then parred 18 — ending in a tie for 2nd place at +7 (77). But it was Adam Gamble who stayed cool under pressure, going par/par on the closing holes to finish at +5 (75) and earn the title of 2025 Division 2 Champion!
Division 3 was a battle royale with a massive field of 38 players!
With so much talent on the course, it was anyone’s guess who would come out on top. At the turn, Richard Knox held a narrow two-stroke lead at +2 (37), with Lewis Benton and JP Vincenti close behind at +4, and Kevin Wilson and Tyler Pratt lurking at +5. Several others were looking to make a back-nine charge.
Tom Leonard, Dan Sadler, and Timothy Dublynn all fought hard, finishing tied for 7th at +15 (85). Cassidy Salvador landed in 6th with a solid +14 (84), while Kevin Wilson and Richard Guillod shared 4th at +13 (83). JP Vincenti put together a strong round to claim 3rd place with +11 (81).
But the drama came down to the two Brits — Knox vs. Benton. Knox maintained control through much of the back nine, especially after Benton stumbled with a double bogey on 14. But things got interesting on 18 when Knox carded a triple bogey, leaving the door slightly open. Benton needed a birdie on the final hole to force a playoff… Did he deliver?
Not quite. He made par, finishing with an impressive +8 (78).
That left Richard Knox to claim victory and be crowned the 2025 Division 3 Champion with a clutch +7 (77)!
Division 4 brought the heat with 23 players grinding it out for the title!
At the turn, it was a tight battle with 7 players in the mix. Andrew Repetto and Kevin Ungaretta were out in front at +7, closely followed by La Fountain and Illyas Sarwari at +8. John Sans was just one back at +9, with Jose Martinez and Jeff Marshall both sitting at +10 — all within striking distance.
As we saw across the board, the back nine proved to be a real test.
La Fountain, Marshall, and Sans couldn’t keep up the pace and faded down the stretch. Meanwhile, Mathew Percia surged with a strong +6 on the back, but it wasn’t quite enough to get him into the money. Ungaretta battled through the tougher back nine, hanging on for a 4th place finish at +20 (90). Keno Chambers came alive on the back with the best 9-hole stretch in the division (+5), vaulting him into a tie for 2nd with Jose Martinez, both finishing at +19 (89). But in the end, it was Andrew Repetto who stayed steady and held his lead from start to finish, firing a +15 (85) to become the 2025 Division 4 Champion!
Division 5 may have had a smaller field of 14 players, but the battle for the top spot was just as fierce!
Zach Plude came out strong, making the turn at +8, with Anthony Smith (+12) and Walter Schopf (+13) hot on his heels. With only the top three finishers making it into the money, every shot counted on the back nine. Paul Taylor quietly put together a solid finish, posting +12 on the back, which earned him a share of 3rd place with Smith at +26 (96).
Meanwhile, the showdown for the title came down to Plude and Schopf.
Plude stumbled on the back nine, and by the time they reached 18, Schopf had taken a two-stroke lead after a strong +9 back nine. Plude made a clutch par on 18, and Schopf followed with a bogey — but it was just enough. Plude finished runner-up at +23 (93). Walter Schopf held on to win by a single stroke, finishing at +22 (92) and becoming the 2025 Division 5 Champion!
Open Net was stacked with 38 players in the field and payouts going to the top 7 spots
It was Jeff Grubb who rose to the top, firing a clutch -2 (68) to claim the Open Net title!
Jose Martinez was right on his heels, finishing -1 (69) for a strong runner-up performance.
A logjam followed with a four-way tie at +1 (71) between Keno Chambers, La Fountain, Kevin Ungaretta, and Lewis Benton — all battling it out for a share of 3rd place.
Dan Ayars rounded out the top 7, finishing +2 (73) to secure the final payout position.
A tightly contested leaderboard and another awesome showing from the APT field!
Senior Net Division
A field of 42 competitors battled it out for a spot in the top 7 prize pool positions. In the end, it was Richard Guillod who emerged victorious, firing a -1 (69) to take the title. A four-way tie at +1 (71) followed, with Christian Alderucci, Andrew Repetto, Tom Leonard, and Adam Gamble sharing second place honors. Rounding out the prize pool, Dan Sadler and John Saniginari finished in a tie for 6th place at +2 (72).
