The 2025 North American Championship was contested at the prestigious Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida.  360 players flew in from all across the country for a sold out event that was contested on the Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus signature courses on property.  Reunion is used to hosting big events, as it served as the host for the Ginn Open on the LPGA Tour.  APT’s sponsors were on hand, highlighted by presenting sponsor Worldwide Golf and Global Golf on-site to meet with APT members as well as sponsor the Worldwide Golf Long Drive Contest.  Players got some great welcome gifts from Universal Retirement, SWAG, 2UNDR, USGlove and more.  Points races were tight as players had their last chance to earn points in the Worldwide Golf National Player of the Year races in their respective divisions.  The Top-5 and ties in every division earned priority exemptions into next year’s North American Championships to be held in Scottsdale, AZ.

In Division 1, Andrew Buse (Kentucky) set the tone early with a round of 69 to jump out to a 2 shot lead as scores were low with favorable scoring conditions and nearly perfect weather for the 54-hole event.  Adam Yarbrough (Atlanta) moved into position on Day 2 with a 69 to set up a dramatic final round.  The biggest mover in Sunday’s final round was 2024 Worldwide Golf National Player of the Year Andrew Echard (Utah) who needed a big finish to defend his title.  Coming down the stretch needing to make birdies, Echard did just that, making birdie on 3 of his last 4 holes capping off a final round 71 to force a 3-way playoff with Adam Yarbrough and first round leader Andrew Buse at 2-under par 214.  The first 3-way sudden death playoff in NAC history would not disappoint as all 3 players made par on the first playoff hole, which was the difficult 18th at the Nicklaus course.  On the second playoff hole, Echardwould be eliminated with a costly double-bogey, while Yarbrough and Buse would move on to the 3rd sudden death hole, back to the 18th at the Nicklaus course.  Yarbrough would come up clutch, with a birdie on the par-5 to secure the 2025 North American Championship title.  The T2 finish by Andrew Echard was good enough to secure him the title of Worldwide Golf National Player of the Year for the 2nd straight season, besting John Masotti (Carolina Triad) by the slim margin of just 68 points.  Marco Tallerico (St. Louis) won the Open Net competition with a 3-day total of 13-under par (+6 gross – 4.8 tournament index).

In Division 2, Matthew Bankston (Birmingham) got off to a hot start during Round 1 at the tricky Nicklaus course that features small and undulated greens that make for daunting hole locations and tricky up and downs.  After an unfortunate double, Bankston got the putter working, making 6 birdies en route to a 73 that would see him take an early two shot lead over Tyler Moore (Utah), who shot an impressive 75 to sit in solo 2nd after Day 1.  A second round 76 at the Palmer course set up a final round battle between Bankston, Tyler Moore (who matched Bankston’s 76), and Bret Stanfield (Central GA – Macon) moved into position with an impressive 73.  Bankston played solid in the final round, avoiding big mistakes to shoot a final round 79 and finish with 73-76-79 228 at +12 and earn a 3-shot victory over Bret Stansfield and Ronnie Averett (Birmingham), who shot a final round 72 to jump into a tie for 2nd place at +15.  Joshua Brooks (Kentucky) and Mike Lingenfelter (St. Louis) finished in a tie for 4th at +16.  Lingenfelter and Rocky Dare (Central Pennsylvania) were vying back and forth for the Worldwide Golf National Player of the Year title and came to the last hole tied.  Dare put his approach shot safely on the green with about 15 feet for birdie, with Lingenfelter’s approach shot finding the greenside bunker.  Lingenfelter stepped up and holed it from the bunker, and Dare’s putt slid by, allowing Lingenfelter to win the Worldwide Golf National Player of the Year title by the smallest 3 point margin.  Rocky Dare (Central Pennsylvania) and Tom Chiancone (Metro New York) finished in a tie for 6th at +18 while Justin DiMarco (Metro New York) and Shawn Howard (Kansas City) finished in a tie for 8th at +19.  Adam Leys (Atlanta) recovered from a rough start with rounds of 89-73-74 to move up 23 spots on Sunday to finish tied for 10th at +20 with Scott Sacchi (Seattle)Adam Gamble (New Jersey), Chris Lombardozzi (Upstate South Carolina), Hendrik Orlowski (Denver) and John Bean (Nashville) finished in a tie for 12th at +21, while Tyler Moore (Utah), John Burton (Indianapolis), Johnny Pierce (East Tennessee), Chris Conner (Myrtle Beach) and Andrew McCool (Nashville) rounded out the money in a tie for 16th at +22. Shawn Howard (Kansas City) won the Open Net competition at -4 with rounds of 69-70-73 (7.9 index).

In Division 3, Rob Luter (Arkansas) and Eric King (Atlanta) got off to hot starts with rounds of 78 to take the early lead over Steven Hawk (Augusta), who sat just 1-shot back at 79.  On moving day, Steven Hawk and Adam Dean (Central Illinois) had the rounds of the day, exceptional rounds of 75.  For Hawk, it vaulted him into the lead while Dean moved into striking distance just 4 shots off the pace.  Sunday’s final round would belong to Steven Hawk (Augusta), who captured the North American Championship title by closing with 79 to finish with 79-75-79 to earn a 5-shot victory at 17-over 233.  In the runner-up position was Scott Kleine (St. Louis) who played solidly all week with rounds of 80-80-78 +22 to finish in 2nd place.  3rd place would be earned by Adam Dean and Joseph Lacy (Birmingham) at +24.  5th place honors were earned by 2022 Senior North American Champion Harry Jones (Virginia Capital) at +25 after rounds of 83-78-80.  Pat Cronin (Central Pennsylvania) and Rob Luter (Arkansas) tied for 6th at +30 246, while 8th place went to Tom Leonard (Birmingham) at +31.  Leonard’s 8th place finish was good enough to earn him the title of Worldwide Golf National Player of the Year!.  The top-10 was rounded out by Levi Lynch (Las Vegas), Cassidy Salvador (Central Pennsylvania) and Troy White (Houston)  who each finished in a tie for 9th at +33.  12th place honors went to Eric King (Atlanta) at +34, while 13th place was earned by Alex Kavourias (Metro New York)at +35.  Michael Repoli (Metro New York), Bill Debobes (Metro New York), Mark Gonzales (Houston), and Stu Kambury (Dallas/Fort Worth) tied for 14th at +35, while Ben Heinking (Chicago) finished in 18th place with rounds of 83-88-82 finishing at +37.  19th place went to Evan Willams (Augusta) at +38, while Zach Johnson (New Jersey/Philadelphia) came in 20th at +39.  Rounding out the money was Jason Stone (St. Louis), Kason Giles (Utah), Johnny Gastelum (Phoenix) and Jeff Dofflemeyer (Central Pennsylvania) at +40.
